Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortez Jackson.
Hi Cortez, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started with my dad. He is a Pastor and he knew my brother and I rap. He heard us one day and said if you guys going to rap use your gift for God. Fast forward years later, I’m still doing it to this day and so much more. I love music and wanted to pursue it even more so I went to Sae Institute in downtown Atlanta. I did the 12 months program and graduated with honors in 2022. Landing a job as an audio technician right after I finished. During school they taught us so much we could be doing in the audio field and going to Sae, that’s when I discovered I wanted to do more than just rap. Now I’m creating music content and pursuing my own business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never easy at all. Sometimes you don’t get the support you want, you don’t have all the answers, knowledge, or even know where to start but regardless you have write the vision and make it plain. I still don’t have it all figured out yet but you won’t know what you can do until you try. Procrastination is the biggest challenge and fear. It’s easy to work a job a be content with a paycheck but having faith to start something you really want to do is scary. We fear failing and so many other factors but we can’t let it stop us.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have the mindset to do it all and not stay in a box. I started out as an artist but realize there so many people out here who need beats, songs, mixing, and etc. I want to provide the artist with more than just one thing they need. I’m really good at mixing vocals and when I work with someone I want to provide that creativity, love, and energy to their song as I would do mine. It’s always good to see the artist’s reaction when they hear how their vocals come out on the song. That right there keeps me going and makes me happy. Music is something you feel so when I mix I can imagine the creativity I want before I even create it physically. God gave me a gift when it comes to music to see and hear differently from others. I don’t try to mimic everyone else sound but instead, I always try to create my own.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I’m looking to make a name for myself and be known for good quality and creative work throughout the state and even the country.
