Today we’d like to introduce you to Yilin Li.
Hi Yilin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am an illustrator and I love what I do. I completed my master’s degree while I was in Atlanta. During this time, I gradually found my way of painting. It was very surprising to me. The study of illustration was the beginning of my painting career for me. Although I had studied painting before, the choice of illustration showed me more potential and possibilities for myself, so in the future, I will continue to explore more possibilities in my work field.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Although I love my job, there are indeed many obstacles during this period. For example, there will be times when inspiration runs out or I am not satisfied with my work. These times I will choose to put down the work at hand to go for a walk or read a book and listen to music to let myself relax. These are very good ways to tune in so that I can do my work better next.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Although I am an illustrator, I am also looking for a way to draw in the field of fine art. I want my work to be vivid and powerful. Most of my works are based on the image of girls because I am good at expressing emotions and stories with the image of girls. What I enjoy most in the process of creating is using the richness of color to express my emotions, which is a great process. I think the rich colors and smooth lines are the signature of my work.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the future, I will explore more possibilities in painting. This may include the renewal of the subject matter, the way I use color, and how I express my lines because a slightly different combination of color and line will bring a new visual experience, which will be very cool.
