Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalissa Smith. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Passion Lily Boutique began April of 2020. Jalissa, owner, found herself at a fork in the road; when Covid-19 caused lockdown. Jalissa a licensed Cosmetologist of 9yrs at the time found herself having to find a job due to the salons being shut down and her immediate bills being due. Then she stumbled across some resources and decided to go into business for herself.
Passion Lily launched Online; now in business for three years. We sell nationwide and host small business vendor events all throughout the Chicagoland area. Passion Lily consists of womenswear and beauty products. Mom Owned business. Growing stronger every day!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been ups and downs due to starting during a pandemic and funding my business out of pocket, all while being a single mom. The financial burden has been hefty but as we get more visibility, it’s all worth the sacrifices.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a creative. I’m a licensed Cosmetologist and soon-to-be Educator. I design and create all of my marketing materials and website. I’m very hands-on with the creative process of my work. I’m known for my vendor events in my area. I put together events for not only my business but other small businesses to come and showcase their business. I am most proud of my growth and my ability to bring others up as well. What sets me apart from others is I want to see us all win. I offer my knowledge to other small businesses even when we are in the same market.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to others is to find your niche and customer base before investing in any big investments. One thing I wish I knew was how to properly set up my LLC.
