Hidden Gems: Meet Alisha Brown of AD Brown Consults

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Brown.

Hi Alisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey as a Labor and Employee Relations Specialist when I entered the federal government in April 2010. When I retired from the federal government in July 2021, I initially started my business, Alisha D. Brown Career Consulting, LLC as a federal resume and career consulting business.  I decided that in 2023, I would pivot away from resume writing and focus more on increasing employee engagement between supervisors and employees in the workplace while decreasing workplace conflicts.  This allows me to really tap in to my 15 years of employee relations experience.  My goal is to continue to advise management officials on their options when it comes to complex workplace situations. Additionally, I will be assisting employees understand their rights in the workplace, learn how to interpret internal policies and how to properly respond to situations in writing without using their personal feelings.  This change was triggered from my role as Agency Representative where I witnessed a great number of employees bring forth accusations of unfair treatment by their supervisors but failed to support those accusations with proper documentation. In those same situations, I realized that supervisors required guidance on the administrative piece of their role which assisted them with executing their responsibilities and obligations effectively.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This transition has not been as easy because I am in my own head about where to start instead of just starting.  I know I have the knowledge and expertise to be successful, but it is difficult to put together an execution plan because I have a high level of knowledge and I do not want to speak in such a manner where it appears as though I am turning someone into a human resource guru.  That is my greatest challenge outside of social media management.  I am such a conversationalist that it is difficult for me to find joy in being fully present on social media as most would like to see.  It’s a work in progress!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about AD Brown Consults?
Alisha D. Brown Career Consulting, LLC dba AD Brown Consults is very passionate about assisting in the development of influential and motivating workplaces.  As the sole provider of services, dubbing myself as “The Workplace Doctor”, my overall goal is to educate and provide a different way of thinking about situations.  Thus, diagnosing problems and prescribing solutions is derived.  Performing my role helps to dissect complicated situations which helps with providing options and what-if scenarios.  Decision making is not an easy task, so I take a strategic approach to rid the frustrations associated with decision making.

What mainly sets AD Brown Consults apart from others is that it is owned and operated by a hands-on practitioner who has performed the role for an extended period.  Top notch research, tailored and transparent communications is what employees and employers will receive when they working with AD Brown Consults.

When it comes to my brand, I am most proud of it because it is an authentic representation of me, and the message is clear as to what my brand does.

Services range from helping clients navigate complicated situations and explore resolutions that may not have been thought about before.  In my opinion, the best service I provide is ‘Ghost Writing’.  Yes, I love to tell a story for someone else who may not be emotionally equipped to set their foundation properly.  I absolutely love to ghostwrite!

Any big plans?
My immediate plan is to motivate and encourage as many employees and supervisors as I can.  My future plans traveling the United States to educate and promote diversity, equity and inclusion in workplaces.  We will see what the DEI future looks like and if it will benefit the business aspect of AD Brown Consults.
