Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Callender. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Corey B. Callender (a.k.a.) “Infamous Prime” was born on June 17, 1991 in Philadelphia, PA. Raised in the Germantown section of the city, he knew early on that he had a love for Hip Hop and the culture that came along with it. His drive to become an artist started at the age of 8 when a neighbor noticed his infatuation for music. That’s when he gave young Corey Tupac’s LP, “All Eyez On Me”. Every weekend for the next year, he would take Corey to the record store to buy new tapes to study. Artists that intrigued him included Jay-Z, Tupac, and Nas; but, the biggest inspiration would be Dmx and his Dark and Hell Is Hot album.
Young Corey became so intrigued by X’s music. He would come home from school and sit at the radio in his Mother’s room for hours listening to these cassettes, reciting the lyrics over and over until they committed to memory. A few years later, Prime took an interest in the sport of Basketball and began working towards playing professionally. After years of practice, he let it go admitting that though he loved the sport, music was of more interest to him.
A few months later, Prime began recording at a local studio called Bosses Productions. This helped him hone his skills as a songwriter as well as tune up his delivery and flow while learning to count bars. Dedication to the craft became second nature to him, as he would write tirelessly every day. He distanced himself from distractions that would prevent him from getting to where he wanted to be.
Soon enough, Prime and his older brother Aaron came together and decided to start a label, BossStatusEntertainment, trying to make a name for themselves. Prime and Aaron began frequently visiting the famous Batcave Studio/ 444 building in Philadelphia. Prime then began meeting and working with artists such as Bad Boys, E-Ness, GillieDaKid, and Wiz Gamb.
After making small progress with music, the distractions came. Prime began to gravitate to the streets and music became less of a focus. As time passed, Prime became deeper indulged in the streets and that eventually led to prison time. After back to back jail sentences, Prime came back fully focused, writing over 200 songs while incarcerated.
Sept. 19, 2019, Prime was released from state prison in Huntingdon, PA and went straight to the studio aggressively. Soon, the hard work began paying off when Prime received a call to perform with the Chicago Artist, “Chief Keef”.
Shortly after, Prime appeared on the legendary “Sway in the Morning” show where he was co-signed by Sway as an emerging artist on the rise.
Prime then released his first single, “PSA”, which caught the ears of Tidal SVP of Artist Label Relations, “Jason Kpana”, which led to the single being released on Jay-z streaming service Tidal. He was also listed as a Tidal rising artist.
Prime has also been working with another prominent Philadelphia artist, Kur, on his latest single “Activated”, which is set to release soon.
Prime has recently joined another platform that is growing daily, The Weiv. This is a subscription-based social platform where you can receive exclusive content featuring major label artists, actors, sport figures, and more.
One thing Prime has aspired to be is more than an artist. He was inspired to start his own imprint, “LivLegendaryco”. He cultivated his own clothing brand, Liv Legendary Streetwear, where he learned to graphic design, screen print and manufacture his own clothing. He also taught himself how to audio engineer music, edit videos, and create social media content.
After the release from prison, Prime made a visit to meet with Sprayground’s owner, David Ben David. After meeting a few times, he took a liking to Prime’s music and later helped him navigate building a clothing brand. He began to help by providing Prime with tips and guidance, which were a big inspiration to building this newfound craft.
When asked what his plans are for he future Prime says, “My goal is to inspire others to Be Legendary. I want my story to be a guide of some sort, to help others navigate the maze of lifes’ trials and tribulations”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being patient. Lending trust in a cutthroat business.
Doing mostly everything alone.
At times believing in yourself can be a struggle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Artist/Actor/Clothing Designer/Audio Engineer/Owner of LivLegendaryco.
What sets me apart is i am able to be more than just an artist i can wear every hat to make sure whatever needs to get done gets done.
Im most proud of my ability to do more than one thing efficiently. I guess being multi-talented i am most proud of.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Trust God & Trust the process!
