Today we’d like to introduce you to Kole Saunders.
Hi Kole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got into photography probably because it’s been around me my whole life. My dad was around always taking pictures of everyone even when they didn’t like it but they appreciate it years later. You could say I keep up the same tradition by capturing memories. But on a video side of things, I got into it when the first iMac came out. I used iMovie to edit my shorts and I found it fun. Soon after, I learned the final cut and started reading books on the real way of making movies. Editing video is always been my strongest skill and I enjoy doing it. It’s like trying to figure out a puzzle.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never going to be a smooth road. Life brings challenges. Life can be very hard at times. But if you have that drive, you can get through those challenges. One of the biggest struggles is dealing with people. There are individuals that will try to screw you over just to get themselves ahead. Ultimately that never works for them. Over the years, you learn to weed out the liars and a scammers. Patience is a very important skill because eventually, you end up with the right team of people. Having patience, you will end up having people that are willing to help you because they understand what you’re trying to do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
With my photography and video, I don’t limit myself. I’m willing to try everything. And if I don’t know how to do it, I’m willing to learn. As far as my photography, I’ve been concentrating more on portraits, headshots, and sometimes weddings. With each photo shoot, I learn more and get better. I think that’s how it should be with any creative. Your next creation should be your best. With my video work, I’m known for being great behind the camera but also being able to put a story together with my editing. When I’m most proud of is being around other creatives. Over the years, it hasn’t always been that way. I’ve had to do a lot of stuff by myself, but now I have other people around me that have the same mindset. We can exchange ideas and techniques to make ourselves better at our craft.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success isn’t defined on how much money you’re making. It’s about enjoying what you’re doing in your life. Enjoying the people around you. Enjoying the little things.
