Daily Inspiration: Meet The Dye

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Dye. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Bruno and Eudora started The Dye in 2016 writing songs and performing in NYC. The Dye has performed continuously in NYC and other cities of the North East Coast since then. They are right now recording their third album. Their second album Painting The New Night, was signed to Los Angeles record label Withyn Records. The head of this label Mr, John Lenac has won more than a hundred platinum albums for various artists while managing their careers and helped to break bands like Interpol. He immediately fell in love with The Dye’s music. The challenge these days is how to break a band in an era of Spotify where a hundred thousand songs are released every day. The Dye has been featured in various publications as one of the most authentic and influential sounds coming out of NYC in the last decade. We are eager for this magnificent band to become a stellar alternative rock leader of this generation!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This is the most challenging era for artists and specially musicians making art music. Spotify and other streaming apps not only have a saturated amount of content being released every day but also have turned the music listening experience into a playlist culture. Everyone is trying to make the next hot single instead of actually creating a whole body of magnificent artistic work. Before playlists, musicians would sweat to deliver amazing albums containing a compilation of great songs.

Now music is created fast in a chain-like mass-production fashion. There are “musicians that record one new song per week” therefore the quality of their work is very poor. The other major obstacle is that in order to become known these days, you need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars into marketing. Who has that kind of money? Almost no one! Record labels only invest that kind of money today in pop acts with a certain track record. They want to play a safe bet and won’t invest in art music. Life is a journey. You have to be extremely resilient these days as an artist… You also have to constantly make new contacts and find new ways of creating avenues to expose your music to new people. In the end, if you are making truly good music, you’re persistent and you find ways of finding your niche, your music will cut through the noise!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Dye is an alternative rock band from NYC that creates highly poetic and cinematic rock with keen lyricism and melodic landscapes of sound. They are the perfect contemporary band to discover if you’re a lover of Bowie, The Cure, Radiohead, Echo and The Bunnymen, Jefferson Airplane…. They have released so far two albums: Poem of Ride and Painting The New Night. Tantric Pace was the leading single for Poem of Ride and it was selected as the best song of the month of May in 2019 on national radio on Bob Cesca’s indie music countdown. This album was mastered by David Bowie’s Blackstar mastering engineer Joe LaPorta. Their second album Painting The New Night, was produced by Grammy Winner producer Damon Whittemore who recorded Paul McCartney at Carnegie Hall. The leading single of this album, entitled Clementine has had hundreds of plays on national Radio and appeared as one of the best 100 songs of 2022 in rock music in America. This is just the beginning for The Dye. They’re setting sail touring the US and Britain 2023/2024 and they will break into the world with the right openings… Lovers also of contemporary acts such as Arcade Fire, Air and Interpol would love The Dye’s music!
