Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Sullivan.
Hi Ariana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Ariana, the maker behind Brush&Blossom. Since I was a little girl, art has been a huge part of my life. For me, inspiration is found primarily in nature surrounding us. An idea might spark when hearing drops on the window during a rainy day. Sometimes the vibrant colors of petals are all I’ll need to start a new project. My creative process works this way- inhale an organic part of nature whether it be a sunset, or a butterfly, or a leaf, and exhale something thoughtfully transformed that highlights what I find beautiful about that thing. ‘Brush’ because that is the tool that beautifies a blank canvas. It creates. And ‘Blossom’ because of the feeling I get when a new flower opens up. Flower buds open up constantly, yet it’s still exciting to see the uniqueness of that new one. In a silly way, I feel like I can kind relate to that. As an artist/maker, I constantly have to not be afraid to open up. Try something outside of the box, be different, put myself out there. Allow myself to grow and to learn. My intention is to blend nature into my creative process and to encourage others to as well.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t have any prior schooling or degrees in business, so it has been a learning process along the way. I love connecting with other entrepreneurs and creatives to learn from them and to collaborate. I think it’s important to help each other out and support one another.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Anything I create is natural or botanical-inspired. I find the most joy in walking a trail to forage for flowers and leaves. I photograph them and press or dry them to create art or jewelry. I developed a few in-person art workshops along with at-home diy art kits that incorporate dressed or dried botanicals. It’s really fun for me to share my craft with others and to see how they translate the craft in their own creative way. I press flowers into polymer clay or glass. I also love making polymer clay jewelry and sculpting tiny houseplants, florals, and charcuterie boards!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband has been such a huge supporter of my art. He allowed me to take that leap of faith and he is always telling me how proud he is of me, which is a great motivator for me. I have a wonderful group of creative friends who are very helpful to collaborate with and bounce ideas off of.
