Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatima Flynn.
Hi Fatima, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, I’m the youngest of my mother’s four children. I always had a dream and wanted to do things a little bit differently. I can remember wanting to be a fashion designer while in high school and no one could tell me different. After high school I went to college and studied Psychology, took some time off and went back to school to obtain a master’s degree in psychology. I became more interested in the human brain and how the brain worked. I wanted to understand people (silly me ).
While in college, I found myself starting to look at homes and research homes. I was more interested in the kitchens and bathrooms but a good wall color or accent wall caught my attention. I would spend hours just looking up homes. This carried over to life after college. I always dreamed of owning a nice big mansion with a decked-out kitchen, bathroom and walk-in closet. Fast forward to 2019, I purchased my own home in Philadelphia, PA. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe that I bought a home and went through the process knowing nothing about Real Estate or homeownership. I knew nothing about the real estate market, mortgages, downpayments, etc. When I purchased my home, I knew I wanted to help other first-time home buyers. I wanted to encourage other individuals especially black American woman that they too can purchase a home as a single black female. I ended up selling my home two years later (whew that’s a long story). While COVID was taking over the world, I was sitting at home thinking of a master plan. That’s when I told myself just do it, just get a real estate license.
As the world slowly opened, I was searching for a real estate school. Shortly after I state for the exam and passed. I was licensed in PA. I was still working a full-time job, but I wanted to really get things going with real estate, so I resigned from my Mental health counseling job and worked part-time. Prior to covid, I wanted to move to Atlanta, but the move had to wait. After getting my real estate license, I knew anything was possible so I started to plan the move to Atlanta in late 2021 throughout 2022. I obtained my real estate license in GA through a process called reciprocity. Now I’m licensed in GA and PA. I made the move to Atlanta in October of 2022, and it has been the best decision I have ever made. Wait, don’t get me wrong I risked it all and the road was and still is rough, but I know it’s worth it. I’m in a new place, learning the real estate market and developing a strong pipeline. I started my small business, House of Vogue LLC here in Atlanta, GA. House of Vogue LLC mission is to make the home buying/selling process a trend!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Where do I start (laughs), no the road has been so hard. It’s funny because I never considered myself to be an entrepreneur. Yes, I’m fairly young (laughs) but entrepreneurship wasn’t talked about in school or college for that matter. We were taught to go to college and look for a job after. So that mindset tends to linger because it’s our comfort zone. I try to challenge myself daily. Being a homeowner in the past I truly know what it’s like to buy and sell a home, I personally went through both processes. There has been so many bumps in the road but I’m learning and continuing to push through. That’s all you can do is push through, pray about it and control what you can because we can’t control everything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a Realtor in Atlanta, GA. I’m the owner of House of Vogue LLC.
I specialize in first-time home buyers services/education. I have personally experienced buying and selling a home and I want to help other people experience homeownership. Owning a home is exciting but can be challenging if someone is not knowledgeable on the process, terminology and financial responsibilities that come along with homeownership. I’m most proud of being a homeowner because I never thought it was possible but with tunnel vision and a strict saving plan, I accomplished homeownership. I think what sets me apart from others is I’m a risk-taker. I’m not afraid to take the leap of faith. That’s something I would like to challenge my clients to do.
