Today we’d like to introduce you to Latasha Evans.
Hi Latasha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Grant and Graham for the love of wanting to create for events. Formerly, I owned an event design company called A Posh Party by Latasha. I love being creative and seeing the visions come to life. However, after having my first child and working full-time as a nurse practitioner, I knew that continuing with event planning was not going to be a viable option for me because of the extensive hours it takes to execute a flawless day. I really thought very hard how could I take all my years as an event planner, training, resourcefulness, and all the creative passion to create something great for life’s moments. Most importantly, that creative outlet needed to balance with my family. Thus, creating gift boxes seemed like the perfect option. I approach every gift box the same way that I approached event planning-creating a vision from a theme or colors to create something special! Grant and Graham is named after my two beautiful sons, Dylan Grant and Colin Graham, who have inspired my company.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth journey! When I first started my company I sold the idea to my husband because there were not a lot of gift box businesses out there, but now there seems to be hundreds. So there is a lot of competition, but I truly believe that none are like mine! Also, the biggest struggle was to really walk into my passion. I think sometimes we’ve seen a path going one way for so long, it’s hard to make that “jump” into something a little more unconventional.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most known for my personalized gift boxes. I spent months sampling lots of gift boxes to make sure I started off with a sturdy, quality box. Next, the box itself comes with a personalized label or tag. So before you open the box, you are greeted with a very special keepsake box. Once you have enjoyed the gifts and treats in the box, you can keep the box to store mementos from the occasion such as cards or tickets. The boxes are so special, empty gift boxes are one of my most sought-after item. Customers can then fill the boxes with their own gifts or trinkets that are special to the recipient.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love the podcast The Product Boss. It’s special because it is geared directly to entrepreneurs who sell products. The podcast How I Built This keeps me going and reminds me to make it you have to be a little bit scrappy. Some of my favorite books are We Should All be Millionaires, Entrepreneurship the Disney Way, Building a Story Brand, Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business, and Profit First. Huge helpful resource has been Lamar Tyler’s Traffic Sales and Profit.
