Check Out Rosalind Williams’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalind Williams.

Hi Rosalind, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have almost always had a camera in my hand. I was “that friend”. When I started college, I was going for nursing. I wanted to have a “stable” job that would always be in demand. After three years of school and changing my major four times, I dropped out. I needed to take a break and figure out what I was supposed to be doing. I went on the Daniel Fast for 40 days and spent a lot of my time meditating and talking to God. During my fast, I learned how to hear more clearly from God. Right at the end of the 40 days he told me; photojournalism. I originally thought I was supposed to go to war-torn places where people need to have their voices heard through the chaos. However, God knows me enough to know I can’t handle that kind of heartbreak. Not for my career. What it ended up being was me telling the stories of families. Documenting real life, right now, where they are and in their most honest form. Being able to show people themselves the way God sees them, in their real and beautiful fullness, has been one of the most fulfilling experiences for me. I get to go into people’s homes and be like a fly on the wall while they live life. They don’t pose for my camera, yet the art that is created from just being is something that will never get old to me. I get to deliver albums and wall art that will forever freeze in time in this perfectly imperfect season of life. These families get to have something tangible to accompany their memories of “everyday life” and it is art. I am so grateful to do what I do, but more grateful to be able to give these amazing gifts of family heirlooms that can and will be shared for generations.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Running a business as a creative is objectively difficult. I tend to want to go with the flow, and a successful business requires a lot of planning and marketing. Marketing and finding my ideal audience has been one of my greatest challenges. I am still learning, but I trust my people are out there looking for me just as I am looking for them.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets my business apart from others is my full-service model. I ask a lot of questions upfront to make sure I get exactly what my clients are looking for. I also hand-deliver all of the products they purchase after their session. So many times people, myself included, get the digitals and they will just sit on the computer or a flash drive for months or years before they are made into an album or printed to be displayed in the home. I do all of that for my clients. I walk them through picking which photo they want on the wall or in their portrait books (no flimsy albums for my clients). The next time they see me, I have their custom, handcrafted artwork at their door. I want my clients to feel taken care of while delivering a service and product that has a lasting impact.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I don’t have a favorite right now, but Scribed is my favorite audiobook app. I’m always listening to something from Black Romance Fiction to Personal Development. As far as podcasts, a few favorites are: Here’s The Thing, Gin and Juice, How Married Are You, Know for Sure and The Marriage Be Hard Conversations Podcast.
