Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisha Wilkes.
Hi Aisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have 20 years of experience working as a public health scientist and hold a Master’s in Public Health. Despite my scientific background, I have always had a passion for event planning and sought to pursue it as a creative outlet. After planning my own wedding, I looked into event planning courses at a local college. Still, I ultimately decided to enroll in post-baccalaureate classes to prepare for Ph.D. programs. Unfortunately, I was not accepted into a Ph.D. program but I gained a new focus and title as a Mommy. As a new mother of two, I focused on my family and career, but now that my children are older and my career is more established, I feel prepared to return to event planning.
During a conversation with a colleague and friend, she shared her passion for sewing and selling her garments at an annual show with other vendors. However, she found the planning process overwhelming, so I volunteered to be her planner. This led to the creation of W Event Group, LLC. Later, my husband suggested purchasing a photobooth after attending a party with a successful photobooth setup. I agreed, and photobooth rental became a significant part of our business. In 2019, I applied and was approved to operate under the tradename of Regal Snaps Photobooth Rental, A W Event Group Brand. In 2020, we expanded our offerings and launched the new www.regalsnapsphotobooths.com.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We faced several challenges along the way. Initially, we had difficulty finding software to produce high-quality photos, but after networking with other photo booth owners and experimenting with different options, we found the right fit. Additionally, being new to the industry meant that we had to work hard to learn about photobooths and event planning, despite my background in social science. This involved learning about web design, photoshop, graphic design, social media marketing, email marketing, and more. Balancing multiple roles, such as maintaining a career, being a parent, spending time with family, enjoying leisure activities, prioritizing health, and running a business, has also been challenging. To cope with these difficulties, we have hired photobooth attendants, contracted with a social media marketing firm, and delegated certain tasks to others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in creating personalized photo booth experiences for brands and events. We offer four different photo booth options to accommodate different event sizes and budgets. Our selection of props and backdrops is extensive, and we can create custom photo templates to match your event perfectly.
Three things that set us apart:
We are not the cheapest photo booth rental company in Atlanta because we invest in our business, and those investments provide the following:
1. High-Quality Product- We have high-quality equipment and supplies that produce high-quality photos.
2. Excellent Customer Service-I am available to answer any question(s) you have about photo booth rentals. I provide timely and thorough responses and am available via email or phone (mostly scheduled).
3. Ease of Use-Event planning can be stressful! However, we aim to provide the most stress-free vendor experience possible by providing an easy booking process, arriving on time for setup and testing, and facilitating our services on our own.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Atlanta is my home, and I sincerely appreciate this city. It’s where I grew up, and I’ve thrived here without feeling the need to leave. My family and friends surround me, which is a big plus. Atlanta is a great place to raise kids, and I value the diversity of its neighborhoods and suburbs, each with its own unique identity. I’m proud of the success of black people in this city. Though I haven’t moved away, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people from different places due to the city’s growth. However, like any growing city, Atlanta has its share of challenges, such as traffic and crime. The city is still grappling with effective strategies to address these issues, which is my least favorite thing about Atlanta.
