Today we’d like to introduce you to Nita Nail Nova Shanita Trottie.
Nita, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My initial career started as a Beautician. Shortly after graduating from Cosmetology School, I realized that styling hair wasn’t for me. Being flat-footed and standing up 14 hours a day made the decision so much easier! So, I switched gears. I took a leap of faith, moved to Atlanta, GA and made a living from doing nails. My career started by accident, but it’s a career that I have grown to absolutely LOVE! Quite frankly this was one of the best decisions I could’ve ever made! I conquered all my fears. I worked in a salon setting for 2 years before deciding to Open my own salon. Nova Nail Studio has been in business for 1 full year and is growing by the day!
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey to becoming a self-made Nail Artist was NOT easy at all. Successful businesswomen and entrepreneurs in my family (The Gholar’s) are what helped me maintain a level and clear mind. My advice would be to know your worth! Don’t allow things in the outside world to hinder yourself and your success! I was once told that I wouldn’t make it far in this industry, look at me NOW! 🙂
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Nova Nail Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
I do all things nails… I am most proud of being recognized all over the USA for my Flawless Ombré Nails! What sets me apart from others? Well, in my opinion, my work ethic and professionalism are what sets me apart from the others. I don’t just do pretty nails. I’m an educator as well. I educate my clients on the health of their nails. I also give out tips to my clients that will ensure the longevity of their nails.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I believe that WOMEN dominate the nail industry. In today’s society, women in leadership roles are frowned upon! I am thankful that I can truly and honestly say, I was apart of breaking down that barrier and showing people that men aren’t the only ones that can be bosses and in leadership positions! Women can, too.
