Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Baron.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
People always said I talked too much… so, I knew I would grow up to become a lawyer or teacher, and when I realized that law books were less interesting than history books, I knew I had found my calling. I earned my undergraduate degree in History. with a focus on Education, from Berry College in Rome Georgia, which boasts the largest campus in the world. I began working with Sylvan Learning Center in Cartersville while pursuing my Master’s Degree from Jacksonville State University. While I had considered continuing my education and obtaining a Ph.D. to teach at the post-secondary level, I now own two Sylvan franchise locations and operate an AdvancED accredited private school that allows us to drive amazing results. Without a doubt, it is true that learning that is personal to each child is the key to success in this highly competitive world.
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning and operating a small business is always a challenge. It is nearly impossible for any one owner to “wear” all the necessary hats. As a result, the biggest challenge is finding the right people to work as a part of your team, people with the right skills, habits and attitudes.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
For more than 40 years, Sylvan Learning Centers have provided supplemental education services to students Pre-K through 12th grade and beyond. While we offer basic tutoring services to help students meet classroom expectations, we do so much more. We provide specialized instruction in reading, math, and writing to drive unparalleled academic growth for students needing to catch up, keep up, or get ahead. In addition, we offer other amazing programs, such as Study Skills, SAT/ACT Prep, Robotics, Engineering, Video Game Design, Coding, Handwriting Without Tears, and a world-renown Speed Reading Program. Sylvan students show two to three times more academic growth than students who do not attend Sylvan; private tutors and other tutoring companies just can’t say the same. Sylvan centers across the world have helped millions to date and I am so proud that I have had a small hand in changing thousands of lives.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I was inspired by a handful of educators and mentors as a young lady, but without the support of loving parents, I simply could not have amounted the success that I have today. Years ago, when we were chosen by the department of education to provide No Child Left Behind Services to a variety of schools in North Georgia, my mother, Kim Teems, joined our team. Today, she works closely with me in-center at the Cartersville location.
