Daily Inspiration: Meet Whitney Alexander

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Alexander.

Hi Whitney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
With more than 17 years of experience as a professional makeup artist, I started my professional career behind the makeup counters of Macy’s Herald Square and the floors of Sephora. I further sharpened my skill at the Make Up For Ever Academy of New York in December 2014, receiving my Master’s Course Certification in Beauty & Fashion, Stage & Artistic, Special Effects, TV/Editorial, and Body Painting.

I have since built my professional brand for companies such as MAC cosmetics, Makeup Forever Pro Studio NYC, Too Faced Cosmetics as a National Artist, Viacom, VICELAND, Skitch, Centric, BET/BET Digital, Google, NBA2KL and People TV.

Every year I am trusted by numerous brides for entire bridal party wedding day work, professionals seeking extra polish for high-stakes appearances, and by creatives in search of an inspired and breathtaking look. I have also worked with celebrities and well-known figures such BET executive Stephen Hill, Broadway star and vocalist Frenchie Davis, American rapper and radio personality Fatman Scoop, American media executive and radio personality Ebro Darden, American academic and author Marc Lamont Hill, writer Michaela Angela Davis, award-winning screen and stage actress Suzzane Douglas, Entrepreneur Lisa Price, and comedian, actor, and business executive Kevin Hart.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Artist Life is not smooth for any of us. One of my first struggles in this business was getting my loved ones to see my artistry as a career option and not just a makeup job. It is so much more to me. Getting people who don’t see you as a business to respect you as such comes with its own challenges as well. Having my time and my craft taken for granted often left me upset and questioning if I wanted to stay in this lane. Overall, the struggles helped shape how I operate and taught me to respect and honor myself and my time FIRST. Clients will have no choice to follow… and if they don’t -THOSE AREN’T YOUR CLIENTS!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets me apart is the EXPERIENCE! When I work with clients, I like to create an atmosphere of sisterhood and beauty! I am not changing my clients with makeup but I am bringing out ALL OF THE GOODNESS they already have within them. I pride myself on lifting spirits as well as cheekbones!

I want my clients to recognize themselves when they look in the mirror. I want the best version of themselves reflected back in the mirror.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
HMMMMM… I would have to say the BLIZZARD of 96! If you were around in NYC during that, you know the FUN we had as kids! There were literal mountains of snow everywhere and nothing to do but PLAY ALL DAY! It was the best!
