Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Maynor.
Hi Krystal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved everything art and design related. My dream job was to be an interior or fashion designer. My mom would tell me that I was an artist when I was little and I think that affected me. Except, when I became old enough, I started work in insurance and Human resources. Although I did practice on occasion. I didn’t pursue art as a career until I was in my late twenties. It was born out of necessity when my husband left our family. I was involved in a volunteer work that I loved very much and didn’t want to stop. I needed a way to support myself and my son. Having some education in business and marketing; I literally woke up one morning, after praying, and decided to start an art business. I was surprised by its instant success. I went back to school to study graphic design. I also joined The Artist Academy, founded by Andrea Ehrhardt and after that, it just took off. My son now works with me both in painting murals and in our volunteer work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a single parent means doing hard things alone that you don’t exactly feel comfortable doing. It has been a lot of hard work, prayer, tears, and YouTube searches. Overcoming depression after my divorce, regaining my confidence and not being sure if I was making the right choices were all definite challenges. While I didn’t want to get stronger this way, it has made us stronger and now less afraid of future challenges that may come.
I have also learned that mural work can be tough. Dealing with heavy machinery and large equipment requires some muscle and a little bravery too. It has been tricky at times to navigate.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love painting murals! Anything from detailed fine artwork to company logos makes me excited to go to work each day! I have also developed an appreciation for bold typography and hand lettering. My favorite types of projects are when a client has a general idea of what they are looking for and allow me to use my creativity to make it come to life.
All of these art pieces have the power to change a company for the better, so I think it is important to place a high value on the importance of effective marketing. I have always loved well-placed photo ops, creative slogans, and unique eye-catching designs. I am always happy to brainstorm ideas with my clients.
I typically show my clients multiple design concepts for their spaces. I have found that it allows them to feel even more confident about their choices and helps them find what they really want.
I also just try to run a dependable business in general. I have always tried to do what is best for my clients, even if that meant more work for us.
I think we’re fun too. 😉
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
