Check Out Ashlie Amber’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlie Amber.

Hi Ashlie Amber, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was six years old, I was singing along to the radio and my dad decided to turn it off. Being six and completely in my own world, I continued singing a cappella and about 30 seconds later, my dad turned the radio back on. I was in the same exact place as the song and still in the same key. My dad then turned and looked at me and said, “Did you know you could sing?”. In which I sassily replied, “Uh huh”! I’ve been singing ever since.

Getting to where I am now has been quite the journey. From R&B to musical theatre, to cruise ships, all leading me to now being one of the very few black women breaking boundaries and offering a new aesthetic to Country Music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Following your dreams and fighting to set a new normal never offers a smooth road. I’ve been told you’re too curvy, you’re “too black”, you’re too old, and my new favorite, “you’re a white girl”. Comments like these can be challenging to digest in the moment but again defining a new “normal” creates uncertainty and always needs time for growing pains. I just embrace these moments and use them as inspiration and a reminder of why I’m doing what I’m doing. There’s more then one way to be black.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Having already established a global fan base with my previous pop-country singles, “Almost Love,” “My Revenge,” and “Fight With You,” 2023 poses to be my fiercest year to date. With the unveiling of my single “Those Nights” in 2021, I showed the world that I am a writer and I celebrated the first self-penned release of my career. Now with the 2023 launch of Apple TV+’s brand new series My Kind Of Country produced by Reece Witherspoon and Kacey Musgraves, I’m here to remind people that I have a voice and I am not afraid to use it. I’m here to create change and open doors for artists around the world who maybe don’t get the support they deserve from industry insiders just because they don’t tick enough of their corporate boxes. I am beyond proud of what I’ve accomplished so far and I’m just getting started.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
ATL is the complete opposite of growing up in Thornton, Colorado and aside from the traffic, I am loving every minute off it. The food, the vibes and the music.
