Check Out K. Ross’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Ross.

Hi K. Ross, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My relationship with art began when I was a kid, and I was first fascinated by the story behind a painting. Many years later as an adult, I enjoyed being an emerging collector of over 50 original paintings by local artists from my travels around the world. In 2001 my friends suggested I try my hand at creating my own art, and so for the next year, I worked hard perfecting my style of art from portrait to landscape, and finally settling on abstract art. Abstract art allows me to paint without any limitations of an object or person. I could be wildly creative and spark the unlimited imagination of a collector.

In 2002 I produced my first public art exhibition of 40 original paintings. Over 70 people in Chicago came to support and I nearly sold out my first collection. Needless to say, the artist K. Ross was officially established. Over the next 17 years, I participated in various local art shows, gallery exhibitions, and private collector events throughout Chicago. In later years I hosted 1-2 sale exhibitions at my own gallery. By the time I decided to leave Chicago after 32 years in 2019, I had sold 835 original paintings. I truly appreciated the support of Chicago’s emerging collectors of my art.

In the summer of 2019, I relocated to Atlanta, GA, and took a few months off painting to enjoy my new home city and look for new inspiration for when I was ready to get back to art again. In February 2020, I was fortunate to be asked by luxury home furnishing retailer west elm in Buckhead to be the face of their 2020 “Be The Change”, campaign. After my first four successful art shows at the store. With the support of west elm GM, Harmony, and Wille, I was presented with an incredible opportunity to go to any west elm and Pottery Barn store and sell my art. With that, the K. Ross Original Art Sale Experience Tour was established. A few weeks later with the support of Pottery Barn -Associate Michael Thompson and his GM, Leslie. I was on my way back to Chicago with a brand-new collection of 65 original paintings. The GM said, to me it was the most exciting event n the store’s 15-year history with 98 people in attendance. That was absolutely encouraging.

In 2021 I went to work putting 100% of my energy into re-launching my art career in Atlanta with 28 more art shows. Another 48 art shows in 2022 with tour stops in more west elm and Pottery Barn locations in Atlanta, Michigan, Alabama, and North Carolina as well, a few local art vendor events in Atlanta. This year in 2023, I have 60 art shows booked with stops in Chicago, IL; Birmingham, MI; Ypsilanti, MI; Charlotte, NC; Nashville, TN; Alexandria, VA; Birmingham, AL; Orlando and Miami, FL. I have to give a big shout-out of thanks to my Home, west elm-Lenox store family, especially GM, Harmony, and Willie Davis. They both continue to give me the opportunity to present my art in west elm for the last two years. Also, much love to all the art collectors in Atlanta and from the surrounding Southeast & Midwest states. So many people have shown me their appreciation with their purchase of my art. I am truly thankful for everyone’s support.

2023 has already been a year of amazing opportunities and career growth. In April, I became the first artist with original art featured on HGTV, Top-Rated show, Rock The Block with art featured in 4 episodes of Season 2. On June 22, five of my original paintings will be featured on HGTV, Fix My Flip, Season 2, Finale. Followed by the worldwide launch of my first ever art prints in partnership with Fix My Flip, show creator Page Turner. I am super excited about the partnership and opportunity to expand my brand to an even larger audience of collectors and art enthusiasts. I have also been blessed with my first gallery presentation in Georgia at Crozier Collective Gallery in Toccoa, GA now through July. By the time this article is released, my new website will be launched. www.Krossoriginalart.com. My work is not done. I am just at the beginning stages of the re-launch of K. Ross Original Art in Atlanta, GA and I am super excited for the future.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As long as I am moving forward, staying focused, passionate, and strategically planning the career path I want then the road will always be smooth. Thus removing the opportunity for struggles, However, I do enjoy creating new opportunities of challenges on how to present the most authentic me through my art and branding choices. I am always challenging myself on how I can do more and be better. Being able to choose this career is a blessing and an honor. Embracing the power of having a choice makes everything super smooth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I define my work as abstract fine art. I am truly a creative being at heart. When I look back at my youth through adulthood, I see where at several points in my life I have always been a creative person. Creating pieces of art from scratch, Bringing the images & ideas in my head to life. Thinking of new marketing activations. Always doing the unexpected.

I have to acknowledge that my creativity comes from the influences of my family. Currently, I choose to specialize in abstract art painting both on paper and canvas. I feel I am known for my bright colors; red, gold, circular shapes, and texture. Last year I debuted two collections (60pc) of black & white paintings. Those paintings have been very popular lately. I am most proud of that because it challenged me to limit my imagination to just two colors. I am definitely more confident with those paintings now.

K.Ross Original Art Is: Organic In Design, Unique, Bold, Textured, And Colorful. An Impressive Expression Of Wow! Since 2002, my original art continues to be collected by admirers from around the world.
