Conversations with Katy Weaver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Weaver.

Hi Katy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was a little girl, my favorite kitchen activity was to ‘season the spaghetti sauce.’ But in all honesty, I wasn’t invested in cooking until I moved out and had to create and cook dinners at home (money saver when you’re young and broke). With that being said, my favorite meal of the day is dinner, I unknowingly was creating easy recipes that always impresses my friends and family. As a fun nightly social media update, I would post an image (very poor image) of my plate of food.

I’ve had people year after year tell me I needed to get into blogging, etc. Whether it was a lack of confidence, fear of judgment, or the commitment to the time, I didn’t take to it. I simply would show my love for cooking through entertaining friends and family.

Come 2019, I had my son, I was used to working full time, and during my maternity leave, I decided this was something I really wanted to pursue, even as just a hobby.

Six months down the road, I had my first brand that wanted to pay me for my images and recipe creation… WHAT!? As I continued to form relationships with the creative food community, I now have way more than a ‘side hustle’ that is also my passion.

From long-term clients, big brands, great friendships, and now contributing the food/recipe section as a full spread in a local magazine, I am happy to say FOLLOW YOUR PASSION!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever smooth, I have luls in client work and in my personal creative capabilities but try to stay creating for myself and my audience. I try and draw inspiration from anywhere I can to spark a recipe, similar to an artist with a song. I have a list I keep in my phone or recipe ideas, you never know when creativity is going to hit you!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For my full-time job, I work as an admin for a lumber auditing agency. (Threw ya off, huh?) I need human interaction and for my brain to be challenged in more ways than one.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love Taco Bell! Just kidding, just about everyone knows that. I eat fried shrimp tails and the skin of the kiwi.. don’t come for me until you try it!
