Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Wright.
Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a working journalist. I graduated with a degree in Communications with a concentration in Radio/Television/Film from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. I went into school as a fully declared communications major because from the time I was 15, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be able to tell people’s stories. To find out information and things that are helpful for people to know and tell them. I also love pop culture! So, I fell in love with news gathering, reporting and anchoring. I’ve been in that career ever since.
I have recently started my own communications company that offers coaching, hosting, press release writing, and various other specialized skills.
I have the God-given gift of being able to empathize with people and to tell their stories in a way that others will listen. So with that, I wanted to utilize that gift to expand on my vision and lifelong dream and work to be able to tell stories of people and places that others should know about. This way, the more we know about someone, someplace or something, the more compassion we can have, the nicer we can be and the world will hopefully become a better place. A very lofty dream for a girl who just likes to talk… But hey, why not try, right?
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the road has not been smooth…in fact, I’m still on it. The obstacles and bumps along the way have been many. They may delay me, but they won’t derail me. There will be opposition in anything you have your heart set on and want to achieve. I’m wanting to focus on that obstacle being the way. Not trying to avoid those things, but deal with and learn from them. And it’s not always external. Many of the challenges I run into are internal, so it’s doing that work as well. Which will help me be the person I need to be so I can effectively do the things I need to do, to not just reach my goal, but help me to keep growing past that.
Another specific challenge is the desire for many clients to have instant results for some communications services. With hosting an event, that’s one thing and there is an immediate response, but for communications coaching and messaging services, there could be a delay. These are services that so many small businesses especially, need when it comes to their audience that they miss out on because they don’t have a dedicated communications professional working with them. There’s also the challenge of wanting immediate success or results and with communications, it takes an investment of time to get the results that most businesses want right away.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently, I am a news anchor and morning reporter for WSB Radio – 95.5 fm in Atlanta, GA. It is the number one news/talk station in the southeastern, U.S. The team there is great and I absolutely love working with them. I also, however, run my own communications consulting company, Wright Choice Media. It provides various services, like hosting, writing and coaching among other things to individuals and small businesses who need that type of help. There are so many services that small businesses especially, need when it comes to their messaging and communicating to their audience that they miss out on because they don’t have a dedicated communications professional working with them.
What does success mean to you?
Ooo, thats a good question. I’d define success as being able to have the love of my family, a thriving business that brings value to the world and that I enjoy doing and doesn’t burn me out, but that also makes me enough money to be comfortable and generous.
