Daily Inspiration: Meet Dejah Hector

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dejah Hector.

Dejah Hector

Hi Dejah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started dancing when I was a little kid but didn’t take it seriously until I was in high school. I always listened to Christian hip hop and was determined to be a dancer for the artists I listened to. Once I completed high school, I went on a nine months tour and met my husband. From there, we got married and moved to Atlanta. After a few years of being in Atlanta, I was able to meet and dance for the artist I grew up listening to

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t always easy, I definitely had to figure out how to pay the bills and Pursue being a dancer. I would work from 5am-1pm and dance at night and repeat. I have a health condition that sometimes slows me down when it flares up, which would make it hard to dance if I don’t have my medication.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been dancing since the age of five, with 11 years of teaching experience. I’m skilled in hip hop. I have performed for Kanye West, currently dance for Lecrae and Wande, The Stellar Awards, The Premos Award Show, Erica Campbell (Mary, Mary), and much more. In 2021, I was a part of Kanye West, the recording artist, Donda Listening Party at the Mercedes Benz Stadium. I recently toured with Lecrae and is currently working as a Choreographer/Movement Coach. My philosophy is to inspire the next generation with a passion for this incredible art form we call dance. My hope is that my students/clients will always strive to take what they are taught to new levels, endlessly exploring the world of creativity.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mom, she always believed in me and pushed me to be great. She taught me to always treat people with love, as it goes a long way.
