Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelso The Don.
Hi Kelso, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started with engineering back in 2011 when I was 15 years old. I originally wanted to be on the business side but soon fell in love with production and recording. Throughout the rest of high school, I began honing my skills as an artist and engineer and decided to take it to another level and enroll in The Art Institute of Atlanta. I excelled during my college tenure and had the amazing opportunity to intern at the Legendary Stankonia Recording Studios. I Interned during my Junior year and began being mentored by the studio manager artist/engineer RENEGADE EL REY and during my senior year, I began working as an engineer at the studio. The day I graduated was the day I received my first Industry Placement on Big Boi’s ‘Boomiverse’ album Track 12 Follow Deez – Assistant Engineer. From there, I went on to branch out and work with greats such as Ray Murray of Organized Noize., Corey Mo, Jazze Pha, Drumma Boy, Kanye West (DONDA), Eric Bellinger, Kurupt, DJ Funky, and most recently, Killer Mike (Michael). The Kanye DONDA Album got me into the Grammy Club with two nominations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
You have to accept the struggles that come with or else you won’t be ready when the big opportunity comes your way. I can genuinely look back at all the mistakes I’ve made to get to the point where I’m in the flow as an engineer because I learned from every struggle I’ve been through. As of now, it’s pretty smooth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
