Meet Lucas Trower

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Trower. Lucas was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Lina Franklin.

Lucas, can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in a small city within the heart of Illinois. From a young age, I developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors, a tight-knit community, and the values of hard work and perseverance that were instilled in me by my parents and two older sisters. I am very grateful for the family that I have because we are so close with each other even if there are states between us.

Sports played a significant role early on in my life. I participated in various sports throughout my childhood that kept me active and on the road playing across the US. Sports helped fuel my competitive nature that gets me in trouble sometimes on game nights. I might not play as many sports as I used to, or even as often, but I do try to remain active to maintain my health both physically and mentally.

I moved to Atlanta in 2016, more specifically Decatur, for education and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I absolutely love the city with all of the activities there are to do, the rich diverse groups of people you can connect with, and all the opportunities to branch out and try new things.

I met my husband in 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic and it was great way to start out our relationship. We had nothing else to do but to hang out with each other and allow us to understand and appreciate each other faster than what I would normally expect to be possible. I found someone that I can laugh with, be weird with, and just be unapologetically me.

Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
My path began as an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois. With a deep passion for science, particularly biology, I chose to major in Biology to delve into the fascinating world of life sciences. After completing my undergraduate degree, I spent a year teaching middle school science, which proved to be a transformative experience. It honed my communication skills, adaptability, and ability to work with diverse populations. Motivated by my passion for public health and understanding the patterns and effects of diseases, I moved to Atlanta to pursue a master’s degree in epidemiology. My training in epidemiology has been invaluable in my current role as an anesthesiologist assistant, allowing me to approach patient care from a holistic perspective. Two weeks after completing my epidemiology program, I started a master’s program in anesthesiology. This intensive training deepened my understanding of anesthesia techniques, pharmacology, patient management, and perioperative care. In my current role as an anesthesiologist assistant, I work closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional anesthesia care. I assess patients, help develop anesthesia plans, administer anesthesia, monitor vital signs, and manage pain and comfort throughout procedures. My unique background in teaching, epidemiology, and anesthesiology sets me apart in this field. What I love most about my work is the ability to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. Ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being during surgical procedures is deeply fulfilling. I strive to alleviate their fears and support them throughout their surgical journey. Collaborating with an anesthesia care team is also a highlight of my work. We collectively pool our expertise to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients.
