Today we’d like to introduce you to Rev. Dr. Kimberly Mason.
Hi Rev. Dr. Mason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I like to boast about being a GA peach by way of Lexington, Kentucky and Washington DC.
I have worked in the Legal field for over 25 years, currently working as a Patent Prosecution Administrator for an IP Firm here in Atlanta. I received a Diploma of Ministry from the Chesapeake Bible College and Seminary while also completing the requirements to receive an associate degree in Paralegal Studies from the University of Maryland University College. I continued on and later received a Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies from the University of Maryland University College and a Master of Law degree in Non-Profit Management from Regent University. On May 5, 2023, I successfully defended my dissertation and completed the requirements to receive a Doctoral Degree in Higher Education Leadership from Clark Atlanta University.
Vocationally, I am a licensed and ordained Minister currently serving as an associate minister at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, Decatur, GA under Rev. Jerry D. Black. My ministerial experience has been in the areas of Christian Education, Youth Ministry and Women’s Ministry, and Ministerial Development. I have also been honored to have been chosen to be a guest speaker or facilitator for several Women’s Conferences and Retreats in the Atlanta, Kentucky, Maryland, DC, North Carolina, and Virginia areas.
Despite my career experiences, educational success, and ministerial aspirations. The most challenging, rewarding, yet hardest job I ever had to do was to raise my daughter as a single parent. One of the most significant lessons I learned was the phrase “it takes a village” is true. My village was and is still strong. My village stepped in and stepped up when I could not. So much so that I prayed and asked God to provide a way for me to be to someone else what so many have been to me. This is what the premise of my non-profit organization, A STEP UP Christian Ministries is based off of. It allows me to be a “village” to others.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Not at all! What faith walks are smooth? There are some ugly parts to my story. But my story is what makes me relatable and relevant. My story keeps me humble. As a single parent, you name it, and I’ve lived it. Put a label on it, and I’ve struggled through it, mention it, and I’ve probably suffered from it. But the blessing is that I’ve lived to preach about it and create a non-profit around it, and people have been blessed. It has not been easy, but it was worth it. What I have been through fuels my desire to help others.
Like with any nonprofit, one of the biggest challenges we face is obtaining funding. It costs to run any business, including a non-profit, especially if that non-profit is for the financial benefit of others.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have always had a heart to serve. My non-profit organization, A STEP Up Christian Ministries was birthed as a foundational initiative to cultivate that desire to serve.
We are a Christ-centered organization that is ANOINTED to STRENGTHEN, TEACH, EMPOWER, PROVIDE for, UPHOLD and PREPARE God’s people for greatness!
It is based on the concept of Jeremiah 29:11; that God has a perfect plan for each one of his people. Our mission is to help God’s people recognize and step forward into those God-given plans through ministry-sponsored Educational Opportunities, Workshops and Scholarships.
I have been working in the legal field for well over 25 years, and I take pride in using my experience and education to assist other Ministers, non-profits, Musicians and artists to organize and run their ministries “decently and in order”. The initiatives we currently work to fund came from my prayer of wanting to help others as I have been helped. For example:
• I had a village that stepped in and helped me when I was raising my daughter, one of our initiatives, the Kimberly Mason Single Parent Assistance Fund helps single parents financially with non-traditional financial needs such as financial assistance for High School Senior fees, financial assistance that assist with prom essentials, and financial assistance to assist with extracurricular activity fees and financial assistance toward college testing fees.
• I lost my sister/cousin to cancer. One of our initiatives, The Tyra DeLeise Coleman Cancer Assistance Fund, provides for the physical and Spiritual needs of patients going through cancer treatments and their caregivers. We aim to provide toiletries, blankets, head covers, and any other needed essentials.
• I had so many Pastors and ministers (Including my Dad) who mentored, and supported me throughout my ministerial journey, one of our initiatives, the Rev. Dr. Willie Mason Scholarship for Christian Education, provides financial support to young ministers attending the Hampton Minister’s Conference and the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
In April of 2023, I was fortunate to reach the mark of 20 years in ministry. To celebrate this milestone, we are planning a fundraising event. All proceeds raised through the event will benefit the initiatives of A STEP UP Christian Ministries so we can keep serving and blessing others.
