Daily Inspiration: Meet Kiara Moody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Moody.

Kiara Moody

Hi Kiara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I always wanted to be on On tv. At first, this dream seemed far from reality knowing that no one in my life was a part of this industry. I was raised in Decatur GA but from being a military child, I have lived all of the world. Living in China when I was little was when I realized I am supposed to be somebody because they have never seen a black person so they would take pictures of and with me ask for my autograph and call their friends to show me off. This was the start of my star ego awakening.

Fast forwarding in school, I suffered from depression and wanted to pursue psychology in university. I currently attend Georgia state university in hopes of starting my own counseling center but life took a turn for me.

My regular job is a bartender at a bowling alley where I meet Big Doom he loved my personality and my hustle and asked me to be his assistant at livehiphopdaily. I ended up failing my psychology re-course and had to change my major. I told my counselor about my internship and she insisted I major in journalism which is helping me with my career.

When I started this internship, it felt like my calling. I became an A&R overnight and it changed my life. Working with Earhustlin404 allowed me to network with talented people and celebrities! This builds up my name in the podcast industry. I even reached out and did bartending for industry events, interviews with different podcasts, magazines and talked at a few career days.

The next year I got offered to start my own show at livehiphopdaily. It took six months to put everything together for my show. I am very blessed and honored to have worked my way up to getting signed. Having my own platform to voice my concerns and entertain and uplift women like is what I feel like I’m put on this earth to do.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My struggles along the way in this industry would be the lack of social mobility due to being a plus size dark skin women. Other than that, all my accomplishments have been from networking and putting myself in spaces where I’m comfortable and accepted. The hardest part about this industry is being nervous when given opportunities; my motto is to never turn down a business endeavor because if you was offered it, it means you deserve it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the creator and host laughandkiki podcast, A moody conversation production. I specialize in entertainment and news media. I am known for my A&R being well-connected with the community. I am most proud of my show at Livehiphopdaily and being asked to do other podcasts and magazines and hosting events.

What Sets me apart from everyone else is my drive and motivation and how I’m not afraid of taking any opportunities. I strongly believe your network is your net worth.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how Atlanta is the new Hollywood and everyone is coming here to network and become famous and expand their business and professionalism and school career. Likely I was born at Grady Hospital, making me a real atl-ian. That’s also the reason I didn’t leave Georgia for university everything I want from the industry is here. Being an A&R in Atlanta is great because at networking events or when I’m working as a bartender, I met the most amazingly talented people from all over making my career so exciting.

The downside of Atlanta is the same being from Decatur; some people are scared of seeing others surpass them in success. Friends and relatives you would want to support you font because they don’t understand how important and how much you work out. Some expect handouts and hangups but I can’t grow unless my peers do but I feel like that is everywhere.
