Today we’d like to introduce you to Deidre Wilson.

Deidre Wilson

Hi Deidre, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m Deidre Wilson. I grew up in a small town in Idaho. I currently work as a graphic designer for a large solar company in Utah. In my sophomore year of high school, my mother encouraged me to become an artist and take some art classes. I fell in love with digital art and screen printing. I designed every shirt, it seemed during my high school years. As a senior I was able to do a mural for the city called the framework of society and I did an internship with the local photographer. I learned how to use Photoshop and how to do simple edits. From there, I attended college and took various courses on my BFA. My emphasis was in graphic design. For graduation, we had to put in our own art show and I got to be the lead on the studio’s layout. It was very fun and I enjoyed it. From there I worked for the university and designed the commencement cover, sports swag, and other university needs including advertisements. I now work for a solar company and also do their videography and photography.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Many people tell you that artwork will never make you money. I disagree, you can make money at anything you work at. Many of the skills I learned came after many hours of trying again. Unfortunately, art requires you to learn via failures.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a graphic designer, photographer, and videographer. I love creating logos and branding material for companies. I am always up for a challenge and strive to produce products that are top quality. I do freelance on the side for various people and enjoy the challenge of various different projects.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Grit and diligence. If you are not willing to work hard and reject nay-sayers, you will never get far. Just do what you love and forget what people say about money. It comes and it goes you will have what you need if you are willing to grit through it.
