Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Hooper.
Hi Danielle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been an artist my entire life. I grew up painting and drawing with my mom and other creative women.
Growing up, my art teachers were amazing mentors. I owe a lot of my passion to their generosity as educators.
When it came time to decide on a career path, I chose business. I earned my BSBA in marketing in 2020. When the pandemic hit and the job market was practically nonexistent, I had time to consider art again. That is what lead me to where I am today…working towards my MFA in graphic design and visual experience at SCAD.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle for me as an artist is the imposter syndrome. It is what pushed me away from art as a profession initially. Even now that I am in graduate school, I question my capability.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m technically a graphic designer, but I identify as an artist. I explore many mediums and topics, graphic design being one of them. I love to use my work as an opportunity to explore social justice issues as well as the quirky and mundane elements in life.
I’m most proud of my voice. It’s weird and unorthodox as well as unapologetic. It’s scary to step into that space, but it is genuine.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
