Today we’d like to introduce you to Quan Simon.
Quan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Quan Simon (QuanQuanDaDon), Born and Raised in Brooklyn, NY, started getting interested in music at the young age of five. My big sister always had the latest music on tape of the 90’s. It wasn’t until I turned maybe eight living in Queens, NY that I started getting into rapping because my big brother would show me his work he did at his friend’s studio. I moved to GA when I turned ten and had a Nextel phone where I’d record my freestyles. I did this for about a year and a half. I moved to Clayton County where I first ran into an actual recording studio with my friends in 9th grade. Where they showed me how to record and mix so I can hear myself on the big stereos. It was then that I fell in love with recording myself. I used it as an outlet of my feelings and my thoughts. My music style of how I talk about my life I picked it up from Atlanta rapper Rocko. And Kwony Cash. I fell in love with how they expressed themselves. Like a lot of my peers, I ran through the streets to find myself and felt I had no one to express anything to, so I’d frequently go to the studio to let it all out.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There definitely were obstacles. I had to be on my own at the early age of 16. Rough situations, deaths and me making my own mistakes was getting out of hand, but before permanent damage was done, I was learning from the wrong choices I’ve made.
What matters most to you?
The Family I Made. I am a father of three, two boys and a girl.
