Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerald McPhail.
Hi Gerald, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am grateful and blessed to be the husband of Althea Hill McPhail (over 38 years) and the father of four daughters and grandfather of four. I grew up in North Carolina and had no indoor bathroom for years. I went to an “outhouse”, but God has given me a “Penthouse” life experience. Even though my father died when I was nine years old, I was able to see him provide jobs for others in our community. After going to school and being called into ministry, I found myself looking for practical ways to make a difference. I worked in local government, moved to Georgia, invested in real estate, and eventually started a church and daycare in Norcross, GA. After surviving cancer and faced with the fact that it was time for me to transition from Pastoring the church, I put lots of time into owning and operating hotels and making a faith-based movie with my family. Those experiences led me to a vision for a place we could use to be creative in telling value-based stories. So, we found a building and over time, renovated it into McPhail Studios, where we not only use it for ourselves but also make it available to others who need rental space to operate, celebrate, and create all the things they love. In my calling to encourage and equip people to be and do their best, I also coach and mentor other entrepreneurs of faith who desire to make a difference in serving their unique community with their unique gifting.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There seems to always be a struggle when you intend to go to another level. For me after starting the church, I soon had to deal with cancer. After buying the second and third hotels, I dealt with all kinds of struggles being an absentee owner. Even after buying the building for McPhail Studios, we had struggles with renovations, plumbing floods, and the pandemic.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I look to serve people by adding value. I am a resource to “creativepreneurs”, the people who want to enjoy life and make a difference. Through McPhail Studios, we provide affordable, flexible rental space for the celebrator or creator. We also offer virtual or in-person office space (furnished or unfurnished) with available conference room spaces at www.McPhailStudios.com.
As a coach, I mentor people looking to profit from their purpose. I call myself “Your Pasterpreneur” because I am called to encourage and equip people to “BE, DO, HAVE, and SHARE” what they are created for. I teach entrepreneurs how to make their next $100K by optimizing and aligning their business to who they are made to be. I am willing to share what I have learned and am learning with anyone who is frustrated or feels stuck and wants to get better results. The proper growth mindset and certain skillset techniques have helped me become and remain a millionaire through many economic and personal ups and downs. So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Living on purpose is what matters to me. We are “masterpieces”, made by the Master Creator to make the unique difference that only we can make. Making a difference myself and others who want to make a difference is my calling. I will also say that it saddens me to see so many people with potential not using their gifting to make a difference. But I’m thankful that this magazine is making their unique difference!
