Hi Alicia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From my earliest memories, art has been a central part of my life. Whether it was opera nights with my grandmother, the airbrush art of my breakdancing cousins, or the summer camps and dance classes I attended, art has always been at the core of my existence. Creativity runs in my family, with artists and visionaries on both my maternal and paternal sides. As I grew up, I explored various jobs like waiting tables, cashiering, and working on an assembly line, but art remained a constant presence, quietly calling me. Art wasn’t just a talent; it was my true passion. Encouraged by my family, I decided to embrace my gifts fully. My mother gave me my first official gig, creating an abstract canvas for her living room. Despite some artist’s block, in 2011, I realized it was time to make my artistic dreams official. I started my own art business in my hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts, and my first solo exhibit marked a new beginning. The positive response led to collaborations with fellow artists. I exhibited not only in Massachusetts but also in Connecticut, D.C., New York, Georgia, and even had my work collected internationally. Moving to Georgia in 2021 brought new opportunities, including membership in the Gamma Xi Phi fraternity, which values artistic achievements and principles of fellowship, philanthropy, social justice, and service. An internship with Wolf Ideas Group at CHACE Farms in Fairburn, GA, furthered my creative journey in Creative Placemaking. Every brushstroke and creation reflects my family heritage and my relentless pursuit of creative excellence, with the promise of even greater horizons ahead.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey I’ve embarked upon has proven to be a blend of gentle slopes and occasional bumps, neither entirely smooth nor overwhelmingly rugged. Amidst the undulating terrain, I’ve unearthed the seeds of growth and fortitude. As a creative soul, I grappled with the organic ebb and flow of creative blocks, but a distinct challenge emerged – the disheartening assertions from some quarters that my path as an artist, particularly as a female artist, would be unattainable.
Yet, rather than allowing these challenges and naysayers to deter my progress, they morphed into fuel that ignited a fervent determination to forge ahead. The fabric of my journey is intricately woven with threads of unyielding resolve, a living embodiment of the artist’s ability to navigate diverse terrain propelled by an unshakeable spirit.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Music and art share an ethereal connection, intertwining as expressive mediums that resonate with the human soul. Just as a painter’s brushstroke can convey emotion, a musician’s melody can evoke feelings beyond words. Together, they form a symphony of creative expression, harmonizing to paint the world with emotions that transcend boundaries. One cherished memory from my childhood, around the age of eight, remains etched in my mind. Although I may not have fully grasped its significance back then, those moments have grown precious with adulthood. In a beautiful tradition between my brother and me, we would take turns accompanying our grandmother to the orchestra. Being the elder, I often had the privilege. Regularly, about once a month, I would join my late grandmother on visits to the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (SSO) in Springfield, Massachusetts. An institution dating back to the 1940s, the SSO holds a special place in my heart.
