Check Out Brendan White’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brendan White.

Brendan White

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My paths in acting and making music have very separate and unique developments. I decided to be an Actor when I was seven years old after watching a Disney interview. I had been writing poetry since about the same time and music was a large part of my household and upbringing. I did my first stage play, ‘Behind the Pulpit’ at age eight in Dallas, Texas. After moving to Georgia, I attended MD Roberts Middle School and M. E. Stilwell School of the Arts as a theatre major. At Stilwell, I began to sing with the male chorus, Singing Brothers of Stilwell, and perform in musical theatre. This reinvigorated my artistic expression through music. After graduating high school, I enrolled in the Chicago College of Performing Arts as a Musical Theatre major at Roosevelt University. It was in Chicago where I learned that acting and music were two different sides of my expression. Singing other people’s music no longer was enough for me and breaking into song while portraying the stories that meant the most to me no longer fit my purpose. After three semesters, I unenrolled from Roosevelt and moved back to Clayton County, GA where I am now building a solid foundation as an actor and musician by taking on roles and crafting projects that touch people the most.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Thus far, my path has been anything but smooth. Finding out which direction I wanted to take my career in was a major struggle, but it was made much harder because I was blindsided by living alone in Chicago. I faced challenges that I was not aware even existed while living there. Leaving high school, I felt the pressure of very lofty expectations because of the success I found doing shows throughout my high school career. Creating music with no prior understanding of engineering, production, promotion, or marketing was a rough starting place. Figuring those things out for myself is a current struggle. Attacking an acting career with no real understanding of the film and television industry nor how to break into it is a major struggle. Still not understanding exactly who my target audience is poses a major struggle. This is a very continual thing that myself and many artists are navigating, but it just shows me why I have to work even harder.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actor and musician. As an actor, most of my work has been done onstage doing productions with GHSA, the Alliance Theatre, Chicago College of Performing Arts, the Henry Players, and other theatres. However, I am now branching into the film world with a short film and an episodic in post-production, and more material on the way. In music, I am an Alternative R&B singer/songwriter. I write music that I love. I am not sure what celebrity to compare the style to for reference, but if you look up Brendan White on any platform, I sound a lot like him. I blend a lot of sounds to create the realest atmospheres in my music. Looking at my artistry as a whole, I am most proud of its constant evolution. I feel that I am always pushing into new realms and new tactics of expressing deeper and more complex ideas. I am excited for what is to come.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think music will become extremely polarized. One side will stray farther and farther into rebelling against tradition and conventionality in music. The other side will revive more natural textures that focus on instrumentation, quality sound, and raw musicality. Both will provide interesting music though. The film and television industry will keep expanding and becoming more explicit in its nature (for better and for worse). Scripts will get more niche and cinematography will be more “arthouse”. I do hope that we pull away from nostalgia some though.
