Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many obstacles on my filmmaking journey; I tend to look past the obstacles and find solutions to reach every goal. The journey has been rocky so far and much like a rollercoaster ride filled with dips and turns. Finding resources to make a film has been difficult, but I’ve overcome it by networking with friends and collaborating. Another obstacle is fundraising; I’ve been fortunate enough to have a few people who believe in my storytelling ability to fund projects to keep me going independently. Although it hasn’t been the smoothest career path, I’m passionate enough to persevere in the rocky road ahead and excel.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a screenwriter and director. I’m known for making series and films that appeal to the masses, filled with lessons and not just entertainment. One of my most popular series is “HER: A Micro Serie,” which is a multi-award winning series. I have my first written feature film, “Blood Money” set to debut in 2024, that explores what happens when crime, greed, and devious plans collide. I’m also in pre-production for my short film “Unexplored,” it’s a unique love story that’ll provide the audience with controversial takes after viewing it. My work is focused on telling stories of people from marginalized communities. What sets me apart from others is that I’m a multi-hyphenate talent, and I embrace it, lean into it, and explore my creativity without limits.
What are your plans for the future?
I have so many big plans. I recently launched my production company, “A Jackson Concept.” I plan to produce my TV & films independently in the years to come. I plan on building my own table and lifting other filmmakers with me along the way. I’m most proud of my ability to make things happen in this industry with no mentors and limited resources. I will start mentoring emerging filmmakers as I continue to elevate in my career. I will also open a luxury movie theater within the next year or two in Atlanta to enhance the movie going experience; my theater will come with a few unique surprises that will set it apart from other theaters. It’ll also serve as a movie hub for emerging filmmakers who want to screen their projects.
