Today we’d like to introduce you to Terran Eaton.
Hi Terran, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Acting began for me when my father signed me up for an open mic night at Starbucks when I was ten years old. I had to grab a crowd, entertain them and be the moment. That night showed me to always strive and be ready. He continued to encourage me to join acting in church, then community and school. Once I gave up on the dream when my family was homeless 2015-2016 and he NEVER let me quit. I sought out training at NCAT after getting fired from a day job, and he would never let me look back. Eaton don’t try they do, and I have been honoring him even harder ever since he died. He was the first person to ever believe in me, and he is the reason that I won’t stop until I succeed.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge is upping the ante. Striving for new goals is the name of the game. I’ve performed in 2019 at North Carolina’s National Theatre Festival with my comrades in college. Thought that was my ceiling, then went to BADA British American Dramatic Arts, where the late great Chadwick Bozeman went and thought it was my destiny. When getting there, I was the worst actor there it felt like. My fire was fueled. I also was learning Shakespeare in the UK which was ironically where I met more people to fuel my fire. They were stars, SAG actors, models, musicians, and I had no IMDB credits to my name when going. It’s been a VERY great journey. But the bumpiest journey was accepting that I’m not the greatest. I had other actors better than me in a fashion that seemed so far-fetched. In the UK, there were Yale students familiar with famous Yale alumni. Instead of comparing, however, I learned that I needed to be working every day to honor the craft. God blessed me with the gift, but I have to honor him by working with it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an actor. I have been training all my life and been working hard getting my credits on IMDB up. But that in all honesty is similar to most. I think what sets me apart is my why. I am doing this to Honor my Father and my Heavenly Father. I personally believe this is my purpose in acting and inspiring others that were formerly homeless, lost loved ones, struggling, or maybe even losing hope to keep going. Acting is therapy for me and I get to grow on every set I’m on. Currently, I have been trained at the British American Dramatic Academy, trained with Lelund Durond (celebrity acting coach), created a short film that was a nominated finalist for SWIFF Film Festival, performed in front of the 2019 National black theatre festival, been on numerous films coming out this year and top of next year. But none of that compares to inspiring anyone whoever felt like they aren’t worthy to keep trying. God doesn’t make mistakes when giving gifts and talents.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
IMDB keeps me motivated. I have about 12 credits, which a year ago didn’t exist. Tubi as well because some of my classmates are on there. But finding work, I exclusively use Actors Access and Dream Team talent agency based in Atlanta.
