Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Soe.
Hi Cynthia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been passionate about the arts from a young age. Whenever I had spare time, I would find myself crafting bracelets or creating postcards for my family and friends. As I grew older, I realized that I didn’t want this passion to remain just a hobby. So, I made the decision to attend art school for college. During my time at the California College of the Arts, I explored various fields, including architecture and design. It was a period of experimentation and self-discovery. Eventually, I found my true calling in storytelling and design. After graduating, I embarked on a journey that led me to freelance roles. It was there that I discovered the world of Motion Design. This newfound passion prompted me to pursue a Master’s degree at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I will be graduating this fall. I’m incredibly excited about this new chapter in my creative journey and the opportunities it holds.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey as an artist has had its share of ups and downs. Along the way, I’ve encountered challenges like imposter syndrome and moments of self-doubt about my capabilities in the industry. Balancing passion and work as a creative can be quite a struggle. It’s a delicate equilibrium that I’m continually working on as I progress in my career.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a motion designer, illustrator, and animator. My passion lies in the realm of design, and I enjoy any project that involves the creative process. My strong suits revolve around the use of graphic shapes, character design, and colors in my work. Specifically, I specialize in the design phase of motion design. During this crucial stage, I dive into research, explore the subject, and craft techniques to execute the entire project. It’s here that we lay the foundation and establish the visual language of design. While I may not consider myself a proficient writer, I have a deep love for storytelling. I leverage my artistic skills to craft narratives are relatable. For me, the art of storytelling is where my creative talents truly shine.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would say always keep learning. Don’t confine yourself to what you believe you excel at. Embrace the opportunity to learn from others and incorporate new ideas and inspiration into your art. Study the nuances of everyday life, immerse yourself in projects and works that ignite your passion, and continually ask yourself, ‘What is it about this that I find appealing?’ Never hesitate to ask questions; remember, everyone in the community is eager to lend a hand. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, remember to have fun and enjoy the journey.
