Today we’d like to introduce you to Gene “Mr. G” Mosley.
Hi Gene “Mr. G”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I obtained my master’s cosmetology license in 1994 from a school Albany, GA. While in cosmetology school, I quickly became the most sought-after hairstylist. I catered to a diverse clientele, ranging from seniors to babies, allowing me to gain invaluable insights into what styles and techniques resonated with my clients. It became evident that I had found my true calling in the world of cosmetology.
I had a special affinity for working with senior clients because they brought with them a wealth of wisdom, knowledge, and incredible stories from their era. Their life experiences were truly fascinating to me. Seniors often loved to share their tales, and I found great joy in being a keen listener.
It was this deep connection with the elderly that inspired my latest venture – a mobile barbershop specifically designed to serve the elderly in the comfort of their own environments. While I provide my services to everyone, including men, women, and children aged five and older, my specialization lies in tending to those who might sometimes feel neglected or overlooked.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the journey has not always been straightforward. After my graduation, I relocated to Atlanta, and life took its twists and turns. Clients from my initial location dwindled, and the process of establishing a new shop and attracting fresh clients proved to be quite challenging. This was particularly true for the clients who meant the most to me – seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My specialty and reputation in the field of barbering are built around serving the elderly and individuals with disabilities, including those who are immobile, veterans, and residents of assisted living facilities or their private homes. I take great pride in my work, which is dedicated to helping people enhance their self-esteem and appearance.
What distinguishes me is my mobile service, which is primarily focused on the senior and disabled community. This unique approach allows me to bring my expertise and care directly to those who need it most.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is not solely about financial gains but rather fulfilling a profound purpose. It is defined by the ability to empower and uplift my clients’ self-esteem, allowing them to feel their best and most confident. It’s measured by the smiles, gratitude, and improved well-being of those I serve, knowing that I’ve made a genuine and positive impact in their lives.
