Today we’d like to introduce you to Miles Montgomery.
Hi Miles, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My life has been filled with trials and tribulations since my young teenage years, which developed me into the man I am today. Growing up, I was always a standout athlete and was even blessed to receive scholarships to the prestigious Woodward Academy and multiple division one football offers. However, being surrounded by negative influences (and even becoming one), along with serious injuries such as a tumor found in my body and collapsed lungs within the same 12 months, my football dreams were snatched as if they were never there. I then fell back on music, having been an avid cellist, self-taught guitarist, pianist, and lyricist since the age of ten, and that was the only peace I found. After dropping out of college I released my first debut project “off the porch” which did 30k+ streams of individual marketing and promo, all the confirmation I needed.
From that point in 2021, I grew as a person and grew musically until November 2022, when a wisdom tooth surgery gone wrong resulted in a 10-day coma, the loss of 30+ pounds, and loss of ability to walk, speak, eat, drink or function. I spent a total of 21 days in the ICU at Emory Midtown, fighting for my life, losing my old life and gaining a new one. Here I am today. Still numb in the face due to nerve damage, with deep permanent scars, but this is the best me I have ever been. God leads my way, I influence and touch so many people through my testimony, and my music has deeper substance than ever. In regards to my life, the Devil could not finish what God is not finished with. After all of this, it’s just the start for me and my life… I just pray my music continues to change the World like my story has changed me for the better.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Multiple legal troubles from 14-17 (which in turn destroyed at-home life at the time).
Having been forcibly removed from multiple schools.
Having a tumor.
Experiencing collapsed lungs and dealing with open lungs surgery while awake.
21 days of ICU, and 10 days in a coma. Loss of speech, all muscle mass, ability to eat or walk. Mental trauma from that experience.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have played cello, piano, and guitar since the age of 10. I’ve played in all state orchestras, produced tracks since 8th grade, and pride myself in having always created “art”, or real substance in my music that evokes emotion, rather than setting trends. Having perfect pitch also enhances my musical ear. Also, being able to create a story through my words without having to write a word at all. Lastly, Doing 30K+ streams was huge on my debut project, showing I really could run with this. Producing my own tracks, recording, mixing, and mastering all my own work is also something I take pride in.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I do all of my producing, recording, mixing, and mastering with my own studio equipment at my crib, having an ear for the music eliminates the need to go spend big bucks at a studio!
