Today we’d like to introduce you to Brii Renee’.
Hi Brii, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I go by Brii Renee’ straight from the A, bc I am an all-around true Atlien! Born and raised in Atlanta, I graduated from Tucker High School, had my first job at the Athletes Foot, graduated from GA State University with a degree in Film and Television, and have family ties to the Blue Flame Lounge, the first black strip club in the city. I rep Atlanta proudly bc it was growing up in a city with so many black entrepreneurs that has given me the gumption, confidence, and network to chase my own dreams. After graduating, I began my media career as a social media influencer. While growing a following of over 1 million followers/subscribers combined, I was invited to the radio station for an interview about my following. From there, I wowed the program director with my “radio voice” and was offered a job on air for Streetz 94.5 fm. I spent eight years learning and mastering the art of radio. While pursuing my radio career, I began chasing my dreams of television.
Starring in some hit TV shows such as Mrs.Pat show, Tales on Bet, and Swarm on Amazon Prime. I even coproduced and starred in my own movie with my friends B.Simone, Jacky Oh, and Ernestine Morrison, titled SCHEME QUEENS, out now on Tubi and Amazon Prime. As my television and radio experience continued to expand I was chosen to be one of the cohosts of Revolt’s own newest talk show, Black Girl Stuff. As we’re in the second season of Black Girl Stuff, I am continuing to stretch my interviewing skills as well as shaking up the culture with my new hit podcast MOMMY AND ME, airing every Monday on my YouTube channel. Each week my mother, Mrs.Renee’ and I sit down to discuss cultural topics and dive into issues we don’t normally see talked about between mother and daughter, even tho it’s oh so needed. Between sets and event hostings, I’m always curating content and writing new ideas for shows and movies to come. This is truly just the beginning for me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been tons of obstacles, from deciding to take an entertainment career route (which my mother didn’t approve of at first) to struggling financially to keep myself afloat between gigs to having to completely change my mindset to receive all the no’s and negativity that comes with the entertainment industry. It’s also been difficult at times to navigate a male-dominated industry as a black woman. If I’m too nice to them, they think I’m flirting or making myself available; if I’m stern or have strict boundaries, I risk being labeled a bitch. And nobody wants to work with a bitch!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mostly known for being a radio and tv personality on streetz 94.5fm and revolts Black Girl stuff. Also known for acting and producing. Podcasting, Mommy and Me.
I’m most proud of my podcast Mommy and Me bc it’s my own show. Not only at I producing it consistently with great quality but the audience feedback has been so fulfilling. While I started this just to have something to bond with my mom and create memories that would last forever, so many ppl have said that it’s helped their relationships with their parents and children. Helping people heal while doing something I enjoy, love, and am naturally good at is the biggest win!
My personality and work ethic set me apart from most pretty girls and other creatives in general. Working with me will always be fun, and I’m a true professional. Plus, the grind don’t stop so neither do I! I will outwork anyone.
How do you define success?
As I mature, I realize success is not about reaching a job title or a certain balance in the bank. Success is being able to choose how I spend my time, how I earn my money, and who I work with. I don’t make moves, collaborations or take jobs that I’m not aligned with. I am already successful bc I continue to achieve every goal I set, I’m fully capable of having anything I want, I pick and choose how and where I spend my energy. I am truly blessed!
