Today we’d like to introduce you to Devonnia Shelley.
Hi Devonnia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I went to school to get my BA in Criminal Justice. While studying, I decided to relocate my family to GA. My transition to GA didn’t go as smoothly as I wanted it to and I couldn’t afford uniforms for my children so I decided to buy a sewing machine and make some. I already had some experience with making tutus and sewing small things for pennies on the dollar. I was in fight or flight mode and I just had to go for it. Completing an entire wardrobe for my then two school-aged children gave me so much confidence that I decided to explore doing other things and challenge myself even more. I got over the fear of failure and began doing prom and bridal in 2020 right when Covid hit and that put a pause on things. As of currently, my designs are continuing to flourish and expand. I thank God for the Journey and Praise him for the gift.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not not been a smooth road but not as bumpy as I initially thought it would be. I have the freedom to design what I please, especially during prom samples.
As you know, we’re big fans of Nueve By Devonnia. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is solely named for my children & I. Nueve is number 9 in Spanish and it is for the nine children I have. five girls and four boys and my name. I specialize in prom and wedding gowns. We also provide custom ready-to-wear clothes and customized party and birthday dresses. We will soon be branching into children’s formal wear in the upcoming year. I am most proud of the adversity that I’ve had throughout the years and how much I continue to excel with my designs.

I love how the city welcomes you and loves on you and your business it is very diverse and you can truly thrive. What I like least is the traffic, lol.
