Meet Evan Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Thompson.

Evan Thompson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The dance ministry began for me at the age of seven at Mount Nebo AME Church in Awendaw, SC.For the past 24 years, God has allowed me the opportunity to minister throughout the state of South Carolina, North Charleston, Georgia, New Jersey, and Illinois. One of the main phrases I go by is “ITS MORE THAN JUST DANCE”, meaning that it’s not a performance nor a type of entertainment, its ministry. I thank God every chance I get to worship and praise his name. This ministry has touched so many lives and shifted the atmosphere to allow others to see how good he is. Even battling with sickle cell, I continue to press towards the mark and help everyone I come in contact with anywhere, any time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There has been a lot of disrespect I’ve encountered with this ministry to make me question should I be doing this. I’ve been judged and talked about because of my decision to be a part of this. But through it all, I continue to pray and ask God for guidance and strength to spread his love, joy, peace, and word throughout the world, no matter what people say.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Waste Management Operation Coordinator for the Town of Mount Pleasant Public Service in Mt. Pleasant, SC. For the past 9 1/2 years, I’ve continued to strive for the best and make sure that my employees are safe and doing what needs to be done every day. Started at the bottom as a collector back in 2014 and since then, moved up from collector to operator, then to crew leader, promoted to MSW Foremen, and now 2nd in command of our waste management department. Some of the structures that I bring to work, I also use in the ministry to help bring a positive atmosphere to the workspace.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
As long as ONE person’s life has been changed, my assignment is complete. We can’t expect everyone to be saved and lives to change at the same time, but it’s a process to make a change for the good.
