Today we’d like to introduce you to Senai Knight.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in my Grandmother’s hair salon, meaning I literally lived there. I began assisting her at 16 shampooing, braiding, and my favorite washing towels. At 19, My mother referred me to a makeup kiosk in North Dekalb Mall. There I was introduced to brow shaping and makeup application. I immediately fell in love and stayed there for four years. Deep in my heart, I always desired to be an entrepreneur and knew I wanted to stay in the beauty industry. I enrolled in Aveda Institute Atlanta and graduated with a Cosmetology Science diploma in August 2014. That November, I got my Master Cosmetology License and founded Deam Atlanta January 2015, offering brow and makeup services in the Northlake area. In September 2016, I became a Certified Lash Stylist after completing Xtreme Lashes eyelash extensions course. Early last year, I took a local introductory micro blading course and followed it up with private advanced training with Eye Design New York. And, here we are today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle was believing I could actually pull this off.
Please tell us about Deam Atlanta.
Deam Atlanta is a private and relaxing suite located in the Northlake/Lavista Rd. area. My clients love the way I shape their brows which is why they trust me with microblading. I’m most proud of my 5-star reviews. I am dedicated to offering quality services in a clean environment and will go to great lengths to maintain that standard. I believe offering consistent 5-star service is what sets Deam Atlanta apart.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was 8, my Grandmother taught me to use marcel irons. First, she showed me how to hold the irons and make them turn. Then, she pinned a track (hair weave) between the base of the stove and the counter, so that it would not move. She let the irons heat up, then told me to hold the curling iron on a piece of tissue for 12 seconds. If the paper turns brown, the iron needs to cool down. If the color didn’t change, you’re good to go. The color didn’t, so I was good to go. After curling all the tracks, I could find she bought me my first mannequin head. I was a spiral curling machine.
