Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandy Bauer.
Mandy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been in the food business from when I was 13 years old, serving Hawaiian shaved ice at my parent’s video shop to waiting tables at Pappadeaux all through college and then, at Del Frisco’s (this was 20 years ago when these spots were standouts). I started the tiny carts business because food trucks were too expensive to get in to. Today we are very fortunate to break out as a change agent for the catering model!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have received quite the warm welcome from Atlanta… however, we had no money to start the business and had to live in a one bedroom apartment (husband, 2-year-old and myself) on Buford highway across from the Pink Pony gents club. It is very difficult to start a company with no investors or loan or friends that go fund you…VERY!
Cult Carts – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are known for and rented to do snacktivations (snack activations).
We make fun. I dream up ideas – most recently a shiny tinsel forest for anyone that wants to use and enjoy! We bring food carts anywhere – mostly corporations and parties as our bread and butter and as something to enjoy we create ideas.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There have been a lot. But most recently, major corporations have been reaching out to us to photograph and use their products and that has been really really really happy tears-inducing!
