Conversations with Tristina Cooper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristina Cooper.

Tristina Cooper

Hi Tristina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I initially wanted to start Rich Peeples Closet LLC to sell children’s clothes that specialized in sizes (short, husky, etc) that were hard to locate in stores but once the pandemic happened and children were going to school online, I had to rethink my company’s idea and goal. I took my hobby and love for candles and decided to learn and teach myself how to make and design all-natural soy candles!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road teaching myself and learning how to make candles. I research, watch, and study videos and read materials while I’m making candles. Some struggles that I have experienced along the way would be getting frustrated during the testing phase of the candles, making sure the candle burns correctly, using the right kind of wicks, and selecting the best fragrance for the candle. Staying motivated and not giving up has been a struggle, especially when I’m exhausted from making candles, juggling multiple tasks or when sales aren’t where I expect or envision them to be.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I handmake all-natural soy candles! No two candles are the same, the scent, color, and or design of the jar are all different! The candles are made a few at a time to ensure that I am able to pay close attention to the details of the candles. I find this as a plus being a small business owner. I am most proud of not giving up on myself and sticking to my dream and goals of my brand. I recently just finished my website for my company that I was working on for a while and I am extremely proud of that! I believe that my determination, personal touch, and detail to each candle and the ability to think outside the norm sets me aside from others.

What matters most to you?
My family matters most to me because they are the ones I am thinking about when I am in my workshop brainstorming, working and designing my candles. My family gives me that extra strength and boost I need at times to keep pressing forward. They provide with me help whenever I need them, they assist in all areas of the business and even give suggestions for things.
