Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Love.
Hi Robert, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I got in some trouble in the state of Florida about ten years ago. I had something I got wrongfully accused of a series of things and I found myself in a Florida state prison doing a 4 1/2 year sentence. After I completed my sentence, I had to find work ASAP so I started working for this lawn company in Pensacola Florida called REFLECTIONS. From there, I worked my way up to a supervisor. I then started taking my own crew out (more trust) while I was working there. I had a friend at the time ask me if I was employed. I told him yes he said he had something better it sure sounded better. I switched jobs and then started working for a company called IBP (Installed Building Products). From there I was training to be the warehouse manager. At IBP we did lots of different things with new homes, garage doors were one of the services we provided. So I noticed that guys were coming in two hours after I had already been working and getting off and going home two hours before I left. I then asked about garage doors why? I had no idea.
It seemed interesting two guys lost their jobs, one got fired, and another took a different position. I started learning garage door installation. IBP sent me to IBP Atlanta. Right then, I knew where I wanted to live. I just needed a way here, and that was my way here. I moved here on December 1st, 2017 had my share of ups and downs. After moving here IBP stopped doing garage doors altogether so I stopped working for them had my share of ups and downs; more downs than ups in April of 2020 I saved enough money to start my LLC Garage Doors By Robert LLC got help getting my first truck. I started off as a subcontractor worked hard built some clientele worked harder and the rest is history.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nope, the road was very bumpy there were no shortcuts, and there were days where the rent was due on the 1s considered late by the 5th. I couldn’t pay it until the 20th myself and my girlfriend struggled really had but those times made me who I am today.
