Life & Work with Alice Thacker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Thacker.

Alice Thacker

Hi Alice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Gatsby to solve a personal pain point. I love spending time with friends and family, however, with an increasingly busy schedule, two young children, and a full-time job, I found it harder and harder to find time for a social life. Gatsby gives back time by making it easy to schedule activities and travel with groups. I kicked off my startup journey by joining #TechAF’s first cohort. #TechAF is the only all-female tech program that focuses on the pre-product, pre-revenue space. This program helped me to go from idea to prototype in just a few months. From there, I joined the Atlanta Tech Village’s Pre-accelerator program where I worked alongside fellow early-stage founders to craft my brand, marketing strategy, and pitch and even won the pitch competition at the end of the program. We have recently released a second iteration of our early testing site (beta.thegatsbyapp.com) and continue to conduct user testing and market research in order to inform the next phase of the build. Through Gatsby, we are taking the back and forth out of getting together.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge for Gatsby right now is determining what to build and who will use it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Overall, my role in operations and as an entrepreneur requires me to be multifaceted and adaptable. I am responsible for creating a solid foundation that allows the company to grow and succeed while maintaining a focus on efficiency, scalability, and strategic execution. I am always looking for ways to evolve as the company matures and its needs change. I thrive in innovative and creative environments and really excel when I can bring the best out of those around me.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The #TechAF women’s community thread has been an amazing source of support and encouragement. My favorite podcasts are Huberman Lab, F*ck it All, The Startup Podcast, and Armchair Expert. ‘Traction’ by Gino Wickman (EOS model) is an excellent book to help kick off efficient entrepreneurial-minded operations. Blue Ocean Strategy by Renée Mauborgne and W. Chan Kim is another excellent read.
