Today we’d like to introduce you to Nanette Spencer.
Nanette, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started NurseFirstNP because of my challenges passing nursing classes when I was in nursing school. I had a hard time passing nursing classes, not because I didn’t study but because I didn’t know how to or what to study. And because I didn’t have anyone that I knew personally that could help me study, I almost failed out of the nursing program. So, I created this online nursing tutoring program to be that nursing mentor/tutor that I wish I would have had. My biggest issue with studying in nursing school was finding the time to study a whole lot of information in such little time. So, my nursing tutoring program allows nursing students to study while driving, working out, cooking, or doing whatever it is that keeps them on the go and in whatever learning style fits them best.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My greatest challenge in creating this online nursing tutoring program has been pulling all the content together. In creating the content, I have to stay up to date on the newest editions of books as well as the newest editions of NCLEX exams. So the journey in creating an online nursing tutoring program that helps nursing students pass nursing school no matter what nursing school they are in and no matter what part of the world they live in has been quite the challenge but it’s worth it all.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Doctorally Prepared Family Nurse Practitioner. I’d say I am most known for my ability to care for my patients in a holistic manner using science and nursing. Because of my nursing background and being a HBCU graduate, I am able to reach and connect with the underserved population as it relates to healthcare.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories are when I used to play outside with my friends, and my only worry was making it into my home before the streetlights came on.
