Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaison Young Jr.
Jaison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Teflon Visuals, for me, started as a hobby back in my undergraduate days at Duquesne University. That hobby and my passion for sports turned my hobby into a career choice. After graduating from Duquesne, I decided that if I was going to be serious in this business, I needed to make it official and register for my LLC in 2019. Since then, most of the work Teflon Visuals, LLC. has gotten has been freelance, along with some contract work for bigger businesses, clothing lines, sports teams, etc. Our idea for an expansion to GA came when I found out I was having a son. Finally, making the move to GA in 2022 and in the process of networking and building the necessary foundation for a successful business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It absolutely has not been a “smooth” road, but that is where the love of the journey itself shines. From starting in 2019 to moving to Atlanta within the last year, the transition itself has been a challenge. With this expansion, the biggest struggle has been the networking aspect with other creatives. Essentially being the “new lens in the city” there are so many other talented creatives here already that make it a little more challenging, aside from also working full-time and being a full-time entrepreneur.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in videography, but in running a fully equipped media production business I have to (and also enjoy) doing photography and graphic design. The market that I prefer is sports. I was a collegiate athlete in college; I played football at both Duquesne University and Bowie State University, so I have a natural love and attraction to sports and helping other athletes get media recognition that they may not have the resources for. But I also enjoy brand shoots, weddings, and just overall freelance work.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I have learned along my journey was to just keep going. And it sounds a lot simpler than it actually is sometimes, but that is very important as an artist. Sometimes you will lose your drive or creative juice and go into a slump, but after you take that well-needed break, pick up your gear and keep going.
