Rising Stars: Meet Cathy Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Green.

Cathy Green

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I opened the “Acworth Arts Alliance’s” Art House in December 2017. We are a Non-Profit 501c3 for Visual Arts in the city of Acworth and beyond. Our mission is to share art and art education with the community. We have approximately 100 Member Artists whose artwork we regularly display and offer for sale. We also feature 6-7 “Featured Exhibits” annually. These exhibits vary by subject and theme. All artwork in the Art House is for sale. We thank the city of Acworth for making it possible for us to be where we are and do what we do. Their support of the arts is paramount to the existence of the Art House in Acworth. The Art House also offers numerous art classes and workshops, from hand-built pottery to drawing and painting in several mediums, glasswork, etc. Most classes take place in the Art House; however, we do utilize a few other locations- so we can offer more learning opportunities.

Our organization is primarily operated through volunteerism. We have an annual fundraiser, “Live at Logan Farm Park,” in April each year. It is a dinner/concert- offering sponsors a table for eight for a catered dinner and an upfront live music and dancing experience. The concert is also free and open to the public in and around “Logan Farm Park” in Acworth. Concessions are also available for those not at a sponsor table.

We have been blessed to be where we are and do what we do. We look forward to continuing to offer art to the Acworth Community and beyond.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been mostly a smooth road, with the exception of “Covid”. Like many other businesses, we were forced to close for a period of time. We reopened though, made a few adjustments, and have been going strong ever since then.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a lifelong artist, I began as a watercolorist and an interior designer. I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom with our kids- and I continued to paint watercolors throughout that time. With grown children now, I started showing my art around 2010. I’ve met lots of wonderful artists. Acworth’s Mayor, Tommy Allegood, asked me to organize and oversee the operations of the “Acworth Arts Alliance’s” non-profit organization. I agreed. We opened the “Art House” in December 2017. I’m really proud that I’ve been able to create a place that artists have sought out. I’m also proud of all of the artists I have met and helped with their artistic endeavors. We have many who are emerging and have never shown their work before. We also have more experienced artists who have been great at mentoring the newer artists. I’m told I’m very organized – so I think that has probably helped me immensely in doing what needs to be done.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I suppose one of the most important lessons I have learned is patience and that planning and organization are absolutely vital. Honesty always pays off, and genuine compliments and a smile make everyone’s day better.
