Exploring Life & Business with Jonathan Moore of Interlinked

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Moore.

Jonathan Moore

Hi Jonathan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well, for an Apple IT consultant, my story is atypical, as I was not into computers growing up. I was more into music, film, and design. In large part, my career working for Apple and then consulting on my own was one of the happiest and most fortuitous accidents of my life.

Fast forward to the year 2000, and I was super frustrated with my first-ever computer, a Windows PC (purchased in 1998). A good friend suggested I get a Mac since I was more of the creative type, DJing and producing music at the time. So, I decided to give Apple a try, and I was blown away at how elegantly it was designed, both on the outside and inside. For someone who struggled with technology, I was struck by how incredibly approachable it was; I suppose you could say I was smitten. I wanted to know more and more about it, learning as much as I could.

Another jump forward in time to 2005, and I find myself working for Apple at one of their stores part-time, just to learn more about their products (and get a discount). But it would soon become much more, eventually consuming the last 20 years of my life. Due to one of their trainers being let go, I was thrust into presenting workshops on various topics, and much to my surprise, having never taught anyone before, I took to it quickly. This led to me being promoted to the position of Creative (trainer) for Apple’s One-to-One program, which was a personal training program for customers. Day in and day out, for 8 hours a day, I would train customers of various skill levels how to get the most out of all their Apple products. It was an incredible experience and taught me so much about how to reach people where they are in the learning process.

In short order, Apple recognized my abilities and promoted me to lead a team of trainers and to also facilitate training for Creatives across the Atlanta area. Which I did until 2013, deciding to leave Apple and start my own Apple IT-focused consulting firm, which I’ve been doing ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In some ways yes, and in some ways no. The parts of my job that I love and am good at, supporting and empowering my clients with their technology has always been a joy to me. But there have been many struggles. I’m kind of an introvert, so networking for business opportunities has been difficult at times since it’s not a skill that comes naturally to me. Also, I’m not an MBA, so I’ve had to learn how to run a business as I went along. It’s been bumpy for sure, but I’ve learned a lot and am a better person for it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Interlinked. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
First, that we’re an Apple technology-based consulting firm that excels at providing end-to-end support for our clients. We serve both individuals and small to medium-sized businesses. Whether you just bought your first Apple product or you are about to convert your whole office, we can design a solution based on your needs and ensure that it will all “just work.” We will get you started by helping you determine what hardware and software you need. We’ll get you trained up on both and can make sure that everything stays tuned up, backed up, and up-to-date. Of course, sometimes things just break, and when they do, we can get you back up and running. Also, If you’re too busy to finish that presentation for work or maybe just need a slideshow created for a family gathering, we can just as easily create some of the best presentations, movies, and slideshows for whatever kind of event you have coming up. We’ve also recently branched out into video production, having shot, edited, and produced a training series for our client, Effective Students.

We offer retainer-based, fixed-price, and hourly services.

As far as what sets Interlinked apart: I understand what it feels like to not understand how technology works, having not always been computer savvy. Many IT consultants were practically born into this field, having grown up around technology all of their lives, which makes my perspective unique when it comes to being empathetic and patient with my clients.
