Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Lyris.
Hi DJ Lyris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Lyris aka DJ Lyris The Hybrid Specialist, and I am a creative curator. I infuse music through multiple media and virtual outlets. As a professional DJ, music director/producer, content creator, and all-around creative, I love to curate experiences that connect us vibrationally; in doing so, I launched an internet radio station, WLAG Timeless Radio, in April 2020. WLAG Timeless Radio is a musical time capsule, intentionally curated, giving listeners a nostalgic journey through music spanning from the 60s to the early 2000s. Additionally, I’m an international multi-genre professional dj based out of Atlanta, GA. I specialize in creative mixing, fusing a variety of genres and remixes/edits with nostalgic classics. DJ’in is like putting a puzzle together; I spin anything with a groove and wrap it in nostalgia; if the music feels good, I can mix it! Currently, you can catch me dj’in at several residences in the metro Atlanta area, such as Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Puttshack, The Moxy Hotel, The Waiting Room, Monday Night Garage, and Bar Margot. Previous clients include Georgia Aquarium, Ferrari, OrangeTheory Fitness, F45 Fitness, and Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen. I’m available for festivals, corporate, and private events.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey as a professional dj hasn’t been a smooth road, but if it was, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Understanding how to process grief after losing my father in 2009, or being terminated from a job I occupied for 14.5 years, or receiving more no’s than yes’s have become stepping stones into new chapters in my life.
A lot of the challenges I’ve learned were rooted in this idea of external validation. In general, we are taught as babies to correlate external validation as a way to validate our existence. When in fact, it is the internal validation, learning to love and accept self, that will remind you that your existence always mattered and you are here to shine your light onto this world. Understanding this law is freeing to the soul and for us to move freely in our purpose. So, the challenges on my journey have been the very opportunities I specifically needed to grow and expand my beliefs in what is possible. Those challenges also set forth a spiritual awakening that continues to unfold and usher in new perspectives and confidence that I can create my own reality. For this, I’m truly appreciative.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I spread love through music. I know my soul is just a vessel to convey love, and music is one of my platforms to express it. I specialize in music curation. The love of music is what connects us all, and I have a passion for the cultivation of that connection. Music is a universal language. I want to communicate and connect with people that have the same appreciation.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m known as DJ Lyris, “The Hybrid Specialist.” I’m an open-format DJ specializing in music curation and creative DJ mixing, blending genres over multiple decades. In addition, I’m the owner and music director of WLAG Timeless Radio, which is an internet radio station dedicated to providing timeless music 24/7. I am also a music producer. I create all content for WLAG Timeless Radio, my Twitch channel, and social media platforms. This year is dedicated to creating more content around the station and YouTube. I’m focusing on becoming a full-time content creator. I have so much content and information I want to share around music but also in the areas of spirituality and lifestyle practices. The goal is to allow my creativity to overflow in projects that will raise the frequency of humanity.
I would say the thing I am most proud of is creating is WLAG Timeless Radio. Watching the growth of the station and the Instagram page grow to over 80K followers has been incredible and opened up a new perspective in the power of how to use your platform as a creative.
What sets me apart from others is that my journey is just for me. No one can be me. I’m here to create and love. That’s it. And because that’s my focus and intent, I don’t worry about how things will manifest because I know it will through awareness and intention. Whatever I envision for myself, I know that it will become my reality. Learning that the expression of my gifts is my purpose and not seeking external validation has been the biggest awakening for me as a creative. Music is just one of the platforms I will continue to utilize. My love for life and expression of it, is what makes me different from anyone else.; because it’s my personal journey to share.
Any big plans?
To never stop creating! This year, I’m focusing more on content creation/curation around WLAG, Timeless Radio, and YouTube. I’m incorporating more of the nostalgic aspect with adding more music and cultural educational content. I will be adding more merchandise and opportunities for listeners and followers to engage more with the station. In addition, I will be offering DJ edits and remixes through my patron page, as well as Bandcamp, to give my subscribers and listeners exclusive content and merchandise. Lastly, I’m expanding my virtual streaming services for other content creators and offering dj lessons.
This year, I plan on networking and creating more opportunities for collaboration with other creatives. I already have some great connections that I’m looking forward to expanding within 2024.
