Today we’d like to introduce you to Ziya Jordan.
Hi Ziya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing hair in my 8th-grade year of middle school; I wasn’t consistent with doing one of my friends’ hair & people began seeing how good I started to get overtime. My 9th-grade year, I kinda took off and have been doing hair ever since. Now, I’ve been in the industry 5+ years & I just turned 18. I’ve worked in a shop for about six months since I was doing online school, but had to come back home got my senior year. After school I want to pursue my dreams of becoming a celebrity stylist in Atlanta GA! sounds hard, but I believe everyone should reach for the stars when it comes to their dreams! Make them a reality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been; since being back in my hometown, it’s kinda hard being consistent my town is kinda small, so it not as much clientele like it is in the city feels like I’m back to where I started since I still have school, but it’s always a setback for a major comeback. When it’s my turn, I’ll know, but I have some very amazing work & I love what I do, so that is what keeps me going! & so should the next; never give up!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a small-town entrepreneur that does hair & is very talented with it. I’m not just a braider, i’m very versatile when it comes to hair, I do braids, ponytails, wigs, locs, silk presses & much more! What sets me apart from others is I got exactly what I asked for! I’m focused on my future so much, but I had to realize my present days are the ones I asked God for & that is what makes me enjoy each day when I do hair & make my clients smile! That was my goal when starting! My services are very reasonable when it comes to prices! I always throw deals here & there cause who doesn’t love a good deal? I know I do, lol! I’m most popular for my braids & wigs, but it’s much more I’m working to accomplish; this is just the beginning.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The advice I’d give to upcoming stylists is to never give up, I was so scared to post my work! But one thing I learned is if you never put yourself out there, how would anyone know? Promote yourself, doesn’t matter about the likes, views or who see’s it, I promise theirs always someone out there watching! I wish I knew more about the industry when I were younger, social media taught me a lot, but im still learning cause doing hair is never too much & both women and men needs there hair done! Remember I said this, I started on baby dolls as a little girl, & now I’m where I wanna Atlanta.
